I see in other threads that one of the primary "must carry" items is a sharpie. Obviously these are partially used for predictions, mentalism work, and signing cards but is that the only reasons that they have become so dear to many. In searching online shops, I found tons of gaffed sharpies but I was surprised to not find a book, dvd, or booklet specifically about sharpie magic.

Certainly, many "everyday object" and wand sections of books would be applicable but can anyone point me to sharpie specific resources?

Thanks,
Joe

No specific Sharpie resources that I know of. They can be used like any improvised wand. You can do anything with them you would do with other similarly shaped object. And you're right, there are gaffed ones as well.

Thanks Niko,

That looks like (almost) what I am looking for. I would certainly prefer text over a video download, but this looks like a great option.

There are heaps of different effects that use sharpies.

Here are two of my favorites that I would recommend.

I don't do the card bit.

I do use it to gauge pierce my ears.

I can then end a coin routine with an Oreo production and talk about double zero piercings.

Thanks for the food for thought.

Thanks Matt, I have looked at those options in my search but was hoping for something without gaffs. Though the STC is very tempting.

Umm... Thanks Harris... Lol (edit: oh, I get it now! Guess I was slow this morning.)

The sharpie through the ear love looks kind of strange.
I work with teens and see some interesting looks.

Might want to include Omni pen in any sharpie magic. Comes with a couple effects too.

I am trying to stay away from gaffs or pick just one. This is why I was looking for the book or dvd... Start to build a routine with impromptu options and decide which gaff fits in after (make a "right for me choice")

I am leaning towards the Bizarro DVD or maybe the new pencyclopedia DVD.

Thanks for all of the input.

On Craig Petty's Chop DVD, he includes a great Sharpie routine called "Sharp."

I'd consider looking into Magic with Wands. Volume 2 of Tarbell has a chapter on Wands.

You might also look at cigar sleights and Rick's FISM winning stuff for inspiration not copying.

Ill admit, Omni Pen is a great effect if you are a decent performer. Same as Look Sharp. Pens Sharp routine is sweet and actually forgot all about it. Might have to revisit. But if Self Working or instant I would say Remarkable. Blaine actually used it on Letterman or kimmel and his last special. Im cnosidering Smudged just for repeat like effects.
