While executing the classic force, someone stopped me and said I was fanning too quickly, which therefor ruined the force. Any suggestions?

Tell him he doesn't understand the subtleties of Our Art and keep spreading the cards as you always have.

Put the card higher, do it again. Say we won't be here all night.
You can also say that it doesn't matter. He can't see the faces, and all the backs are the same. He's not to choose one, but to pick/touch one. Shuffle as you say that, and restart your force. |

In this circumstance I don't believe the classic force would have effective anyway. The spectator obviously wanted a particular choice of card. In this particular case I would apologise spread the cards slower and use a different method to a force.

Well, that's why we call it a force, isn't it?
Couple of things: Forcing strategy seems to be moderated by psychological factors. When you choose a spec, have them introduce themselves, comment/poke fun at them a bit(in a nice way) and try to guauge(sp?) their personality. After a while you can kind of tell which ones are most force-able, and which ones are likely to be challenging. Also, always have an out. If I'm using a stack, I'll hand them the pack and do an ID routine. Otherwise I'll do a TC or Magicians choice. |

I have a "go - to" effect in mind any time I do a force (just in case). that's the long version. The short one is - Practice. Over time you will just be able to figure (more times than not) who is going to be a difficult spec. You will also get your timing down better as you become more confident in your ability to do that particular force.

I use the classic force all the time now. No matter what trick I'm doing. But once in a while I'll get someone really tough. And I'll use the "I saw the card". And then try it again. I think it's Robert Houdni method. For some reason it always disarms them a little. So the next time I understand how they are picking a card and they also will be a little quick to pick one.
