It is an interesting idea.
Amazon started this program because a company it bought, Zappos, did the same thing. But does the program actually work? I wonder. Or does it just encourage the best and smartest workers to take the money and move to another job elsewhere? While the people with lesser skills and less ambition and no better prospects stay? (No solid statistics are being made available to us for study, so who knows?) (FWIW, as an aside and contrary to common belief, Amazon is not exactly making money hand over fist. In fact, until the latest quarter (which may well be a fluke), it had been losing money for years.)

While it seems kind of cool, considering the wages and work conditions at the Amazon warehouses, it would be nice if they paid them while they were still there.

Clever way to get out of having to pay unemployment insurance.

They would be better off, happier and more productive finding a job they really want or starting a business doing what they enjoy rather than wasting their time toiling away at a job they hate. Now, if the company lays them off involuntarily where it is no fault of the employee, then I think Amazon should pay unemployment insurance. Of course, employers will sometimes trump up a false reason to fire an employee who has not done anything wrong too in which case, I think Amazon should be liable for unemployment insurance and the employee should take the company to court to fight such wrongful termination if it is practical and possible.

If they do that over here, then they don't get any unemployment insurance or benefit, as they have made themselves unemployed.

Of course I am sure they would want to get their money from the employer and collect unemployment. Lots of people just don't want to work but get money. Lets not go there and turn this into a debate.

The reality is, if you want something though, you have to work for it, earn it and pay for it. Business people use the fact that people want something for nothing to make a sale by offering a free consultation or offering something free in hopes of getting people to want their product or service so that they can close and make the sale. People want something for nothing. Many might say they don't but reality is they do. Another interesting thing I have ran across is that everybody wants to charge outrageous prices for whatever is they are offering but when it comes their turn to pay for something, they want to pay very little if anything in return for something valuable. So people want to charge outrageous prices and offer very little value in return and they want to pay for little money and get a whole lot of value as well in return. People want something for nothing.

We have had fellows ask us to sake them as a favour. For example a girl wanted move to another city and look for work there, were her boyfriend lived. If she just left then she might not get any benefit but would if she were sacked. I don't really know what the rules are but I know that much.
