"Sapphire Glass" is a 578 million dollar project that I was a part of.
The next generation of hand held devices will include "Sapphire Glass" as a facia. A facility in Mesa,Arizona is near completion. It is a retrofitted solar array facility. Sapphire Glass is not only supremely scratch resistant but it also harvests fingerprints at each swipe along with other capabilities... |

Most of us, being magicians (or at least wannabe magicians, in my case), are used to keeping secrets.
Some of us have to keep secrets professionally as well. Sometimes it's tempting to spill the beans -- like when your secret is really really awesome, or when spilling the beans would prove some kind of ancillary point. Rather than get embroiled in a discussion that would tempt you to spill some of your secret beans, I usually find it best to just smile and nod. (All that said, want to hear the stupidest patent application I was ever asked to write? This guy called up, and had an idea for... ummm... never mind.) |

If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Define 'harvesting'. Any of the devices that use fingerprint identification as a form of password will have to harvest and store fingerprints.
Also, from 2013: http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/news/......page=all Hey, btw here's some breaking news ... did you know that cell phones collect and harvest voice samples?
Make America Great Again! - Trump in 2020 ... "We're a capitalistic society. I go into business, I don't make it, I go bankrupt. They're not going to bail me out. I've been on welfare and food stamps. Did anyone help me? No." - Craig T. Nelson, actor.

"Using a fingerprint to unlock a phone (& thus, for disk encryption) seems like a really bad idea, even if the fingerprint data stays on chip." In other words, there is no intrinsic reason not to leave that info on the chip. But from Apple's past record, it's a pretty safe bet that they intended to collect and harvest (i.e. store owner's personal information on Apple servers) fingerprints.
