Here is the latest from Scott Thompson and Big Blind Media.
Trailer: Aurora - Modern Card Flourishing by Scot......nd Media Scott Thomson, one of the most respected names in the ever more popular underground world of Cardistry, presents nine of his signature flourishes! From the flowing, pristine Golden Gate to the tight twists & turns of Monaco II to the frankly jaw dropping Merengue, this is contemporary flourishing at it's best. Heavily influenced by the rhythmic pulse of Scott's other 'life' as a respected member of the UK underground music scenes, the flourishes featured on AURORA are animated, fluid and visually direct - all keystone's of Scott's renowned style. 'Follow along' explanations are provided in four angles. Pick the one that works for you - straight on / over the shoulder / over the shoulder (slo-mo) / over the shoulder & straight on combined. Scott Thomson is a well known face in the Cardistry world, having spent the last several years producing hit videos for his Profoundmagic Youtube channel. This has proved to be a vibrant hub for the Cardistry community, as demonstrated by the fact that the site is closing in on a million views!!! Scott also created, and continues to run, the ever popular Essential Cardistry channel - Youtube's #1 Cardistry hotspot. Featured on AURORA: Rumba Golden gate Monaco II Dizzy Samba Spitfire Double Barrel Merengue

Zach Mueller, Tobias Levin, etc.. those are the go-to-guys. They are making BEAUTIFUL, highly visual, original cardistry routines, many of which can be learnt for free on youtube, and all of which are performed in a way that makes the incredibly difficult look incredibly smooth and easy.
Honestly, and with all due respect, I found this offering from Mr Thomson (who I've never heard of, despite all the hype in the ad) to be quite underwhelming, and the performances lacking in polish. The flourishes are limited in scope and variety, and some of them look decidedly under-practised, or shall we say, not quite yet mastered. I just couldn't find anything to get excited about. Yes.. EVEN the "jaw dropping" Merengue couldn't get me excited. Obviously, flourishing is about styles and tastes, so some may love this sort of thing. I however found it uninspiring compared to what is already out there and available FOR FREE, and in fact, I feel that it's a step backward. Maybe beginners looking for short, non-complex flourishes would find this useful? And also on the positive side, it is well presented, with multiple angles etc. Everything you'll need to learn the moves properly. |

Scott Thompson used to be known as Pro_found on the decknique forums back in 2008 or so... he's the guy behind the "essential cardistry" youtube channel and its many videos, in which well known cardists participated such as Dimitri Arleri, Sebastian, Tobias, Spencer Clark and many others...
Basically, ask any of the "go-to-guys" and they will most likely know Scott... I'm not affiliated in any way with BBM, but being a cardist myself for a long time, I can only attest that the hype isn't fabricated. While Scott stays faithful to his own style, which I reckon might not suit everyone's tastes (I won't comment on anything subjective you said), I'm a bit surprised by the moves allegedly looking "under-practised" given Scott's many years of experience... would you mind illustrating your point with timestamps or something like this? |
