The Robert Baxt DVD, on his Miser's Dream routine, is a good example of what is appropriate, today. His inspiration, Al Flosso, probably couldn't get away with his actions, today.

Alan Munro, my deepest thanks for mentioning my DVD "Baxt, A Boy, & A Bucket: Robert's Super Easy to do, Lots of Laughs, Miser's Dream Routine". Sorry I didn't see this until now so I could thank you sooner! In my routine, you can let the kid see inside the bucket at any time and as for JBiesecker's concern about squeezing a kid's nose, I don't really squeeze it! I barely touch it but make a squeezing motion. It's acting!

I've been doing the Misers Dream for years and never encounter any problem with getting a coin from the child's nose, ear, hand or whatever. I like to get their shoe off and pour coins from there. When finding a volunteer it should be fairly easy to spot a child who has any "personal space issues". For a start they're not likely to enthusiastically volunteer, plus any magician who uses audience helpers should develop the instinct or see in their body language any negativity, shyness or awkwardness in their helper way before it gets to the point of doing the effect. It's just about awareness and connection with your audience members.

I just dropped in to check something out on this thread, and noticed THORN'S excellent post.
Yes! There is more to magic (especially with young kids) than just doing the trick!

When doing the Misers dream for kids - I mention its from my wishing well at home- and ask them to throw their invisible wishes and I'd catch them in my bucket -( plus the ear, nose etc routine--the nose, I always have a half doz to drop from it-L-O-L) and will take the wishes to my wishing well-- for adults I say that the city clerk required me to collect an Entertainment Tax-with usual routine. Russo, Do any of the kids come up after and expect their wish to be fulfilled?
