Hey guys. I normally do card magıc, but sometimes I like to "show off" with some cardistry moves. I have already learned the sybil cut and the elevator cut by Eric Jones. I Would like to ask you experts what cardistry moves I can learn next. They should not be way too hard and not way too easy. I guess you can say I am a little bit over the beginner stage in cardistry.
If this thread already exist please redirect me. Thanks for answers in advance.

First of all, there are many separate forums on card material here. All you have to do is scroll down.
Now, to specifically answer your question, start with a basic book on card sleights, Basic Skill with Cards by Jerry Mentzer is a good one. By the same another you might look at Counts, Cuts, Moves and Subtlety and the companion book Packet Tricks. Whatever moves you learn, find a routine that uses the move and learn it in context with the routine. Then you have a reason to practice and something to do with the move once you have learned it. Good luck!

The suggestion above are good sources if you want to learn sleights but not for this new form of "cardistry." Look into the work done by Dan and Dave and Brian Tudor just to name a couple.

I'm far from a cardistry expert, though, I've watched through and would start with: Trilogy (Dan and Dave), Papercuts (Chris Hestnes), and Monument (Dimitri Arleri). Check out http://shop.dananddave.com/cardistry.html and http://www.theory11.com/. Solo (Michael James) and Project AVIV (Aviv) also have good ratings. Oh, and I'm a huge fan of A Cut Above (Vincent Foy).
Jeff McBride's Art of Card Manipulation is a great introduction to the manipulation domain (with some cardistry'ish stuff). Personally, I think of manipulation and cardistry as two separate domains: manipulation relies on covert actions, while cardistry involves flourishes. Manipulation can be a wonderful and flourishy supplement to card magic sequences. Andrew |

As Andrew Innerman wrote- get The Trilogy!
The Trilogy by Dan and Dave is a wonderful go-to source for inspiration on how to incorporate flourishy-moves in your card routines. Beware though; most of the tricks on the Trilogy require a fair amount of practise (compared to moves as Sybil or werm). |

Hi Otto,
Welcome to The Café. I think you'll enjoy it here. There are a lot of card lovers who will share your passion for the craft. My only words of advice are if you like card magic, get to know your performing character, and if you want to be seen as a magician or a cardician, or a little bit of both. Once you demonstrate your proficiency with card manipulation and "cardistry" moves, you are in some ways exposing yourself as a practitioner of sleight of hand. Your audience may then begin to remove themselves from the amazement state-of-mind, and start trying to catch you mid-sleight. There are magicians who have mastered multiple card moves and complicated, knuckle-busting sleights, but hide their skills in well-presented "miracles." The audience may be blown away by the effect, but have little knowledge of the hours and hours of practice the performer put into mastering the moves. Others have found ways to dazzle with some well-executed flourishes, only to be followed by equally mind-blowing card magic. You could very well be able to do both...amazing with magic, and dazzling with manipulations...many do. Just think about how you want to be perceived first.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Hi Otto~ Glad to see you are still with us! I was afraid that our scholarly discussion of EFFECTS, might have driven you away.
I'll PM you for your mailing address. I have some notes from Jon RACHERBAUMER that you might like. I only know one card trick. It starts with 21 cards dealt in thre rows and then....hekk, I can't remember what comes next.. O
