The DVD teaches classics like the Spinning / Hover Card, has an In The Air Change (paper to bill), Floating Bill, and a bonus tutorial on the most impossible Floating Cigarette to date. This is Defiance! When you are a magician you get asked a lot of questions. Questions like: “Can you pull a rabbit out of your hat?” Or “Can you levitate?” Levitation is a classic in magic and with Defiance you can now answer YES to that question with some of the most amazing and visual thread work ITR products I’ve seen to date. The ITR that comes with the DVD is well constructed and loaded with Kevlar invisible thread. That means, for those who aren’t familiar with invisible thread, that it can hold heavier objects without breaking as easily as some of the other kinds of invisible thread that is out there. The DVD is an invaluable resource on thread work. If you have never worked with thread before this is the DVD you want to get. It explains so much more than just how to do the specific tricks. Psychology, set ups, light sources, light direction, understanding lighting and how it works, audience management, inside work, outside work, what clothing you should wear, everything you could possibly want to know about working with thread is in this DVD. The tricks aside that alone makes this product a highly valuable resource. There are a few tricks covered in the DVD. The first is the classic spinning card or hover card effect. This is the same classic magic trick you see at all the malls and “As Seen On TV” stores. You toss a card, it spins, you catch it, the end. Except Mariano’s version is all grown up, amped up, and set to stun. You toss the card, it spins several feet from you, and then at your command it returns to you through a solid steel hoop! The next trick is Mariano’s In The Air Change. This is my favorite of all the effects on the DVD. You take a piece of paper and draw a dollar sign on it. You then make it hover in mid air. You walk several feet away from it to get a lighter from your performance case, you return to the floating ball and set it ablaze. In an instant where the floating paper was is now a real bank note. STILL floating in mid air! You can also use this same trick to produce and float a borrowed finger ring. The Floating Bill is a great variation to the classic effect. Here’s the twist… you can pass a hoop or woman’s wrist bracelet over the bill while it’s still hovering. The bonus floating cigarette trick is just as amazing as all the other effects on this DVD, and quite possibly worth the price of the DVD just on its own. You can float a cigarette in the middle of a crowded restaurant table, borrow a ring, pass the cigarette through the ring, and leave everything to be examined. Every single one of these effects is a reputation maker. Every trick is visually powerful, and magically stunning. I don’t know why this DVD isn’t more expensive. Mariano has such an easy going teaching style too. It’s so easy to just put the DVD on, and sit there following along with him as he explains everything you need to know about threadwork to you. That makes watching the video over again easier, and to master everything on this DVD you’re going to probably want to watch it several times at the least. With close to an hour and a half worth of tutorial there’s a LOT of golden information within this DVD to digest. From outdoors to indoors, form the stage to the restaurant Mariano’s Defiance will leave jaws on the floor anywhere you perform it. This is one of those pieces that doesn’t just belong in your library, it belongs in your act. When I give my product scores below I am measuring them on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 Being absolute the worst score possible, and 10 being the absolute best, making a score of five average. The four points that I grade upon is Product Quality, Teaching Quality, Sound & Video Quality and Overall Quality. Product Quality: 10 The price is too low for the amount of quality you get with this product. Teaching Quality: 10 Mariano is easy to listen to, complete in his instructions, and empowering when it comes to learning the material. Video & Sound Quality: 10 Sound and video were crisp and clear. Overall Quality: 10 You need this video. Whether it’s for reference or for performance this product belongs in your library. Every single one of these effects by themselves will make a reputation for you. Powerful, visual, stunning magic. I, as a rule, don’t give out perfect 10’s, and I’ve finally found the first product worthy of such. |

A different perspective. Absolutely hated this DVD. Probably the worst purchase I've ever made. While the illusions look great, every single effect that is taught is completely and utterly impractical. Maybe in a stage setting it would work but I'm highly skeptical, but the setups are so unbelievably convoluted, it would literally be impossible to perform this anywhere else if any spectator is close by. Watching him set up some of the tricks I was laughing out loud at how many t****ds were all over the place. The floating cigarette was the one saving grace for me on this DVD, it's cool but soooo much setup that again it's also totally impractical. maybe really great itr workers would get more out of this, but I'll stick with Spider Pen. Simple and direct.
