Hey gang,
As many of you know, Café member Simon Lovell has been going thru some very tough times this past year both mentally and physically. Simon is currently in a hospital in New York and is not in good shape by any means. Yes, this is serious. Having said that, my pal Randy Wakeman has stepped up to the plate in an effort to help Simon. For more information on how you can help one of our own simply Click here! I want to thank all of you in advance for your time and consideration in helping someone who has given so much to our magic community. ---

In speaking with Simon's father, Tony, the current situation is not good. In fact, it is horribly bad. Simon is at the Linden Centre mental health facility, about five miles from his father's home, where he will remain for an indefinite period of time. It took not only the paramedics but three police squads at Tony Lovell's sleepy Chelmsford home to contain Simon, who began his yelling, screaming, howling, garden gnome brandishing tirade after his father had retired for the evening, something past 10 pm local time. Tony Lovell went to see Simon today, Simon is at a first rate facility with his own room. According to Tony Lovell, Simon is completely down and in a very, very poor state. Tony Lovell has had a successful thirty-seven year career in law enforcement including three years of dedicated drug detail. It is apparent to Tony Lovell, now 83 years young, that he cannot possibly deal with Simon at home. Whatever damage there is to Simon's mind is unknown, suffice it to say that he is out of control. After the assessment at Linden Centre, contingent on the findings, long-term assisted care scenarios will be explored. Whatever the future brings is only speculative; it is unknowable at the present time. Clearly, despite Simon's total of six hospital admissions at a total of three different hospitals in two different countries, there has been no improvement whatsoever. Simon, if anything, is worse off than ever. Hindsight shows that whatever the myriad of Simon's problems are, the doctors got it quite wrong, for he was in no condition to be released from hospital care, although he was released three times. Currently, he is a place where he poses no threat to himself or others. As for the rest, it is essentially starting from scratch, for Simon is not at all in control of himself and the full extent of his problems is loudly unknown. |

Maybe a little less public commentary about how "horribly bad" Simon's "situation" is and how unhealthy his "lifestyle" has been might be beneficial for the man. Really. Utterly humiliating him with these judgmental newstyle columns could quite well be taking a significant toll. He knows the entire community is talking about him. And if you think an individual won't pick up the vibe that's being sent, whatever his mental state, I'd say, "Don't count on it." He's more aware of it than we are, likely. And most vulnerable to it. For real. He's had the rug pulled out. Takes time to regain some equilibrium, I expect. And I don't suppose he needs me to defend him, but I feel an inclination here. We don't need all the garden gnome details. You know how people are- they'll be talking about that for years! Sheesh.
Much love to you, Simon. All the very best! |

This may seem obvious but I would expect they're looking at the possibility of titanium rejection- that's first on my list. Regardless, Simon can be heard in his own words here:

I'm all for informed updates. I am, like anyone else, interested in and concerned about how Simon is doing. However, Simon deserves to have updates delivered in a manner that, rather than accusatory, is considerate and respectful. Judgments are subjective, especially considering, as we've been told, there hasn't been a definitive diagnosis as yet. I understand Mr. Wakeman is Simon's friend and the situation naturally is stressful for him, as well. But Simon is the subject and the patient, here.

While I have never met Simon, I've sure learned a lot from him over the years, as I'm sure thousands have.... I'm happy I had an opportunity to make a donation. God Bless & good luck Simon!
