Hi guys.
I'm going to be a living statue and I'm just looking for some inspiration to have some cool elements. So far, I can think of a water feature, having a tap poor water continuously into a bucket. That's as far as I've got and like I said, just wondering whether you can give your two pennies worth for some inspiration. Kind regards. Neil. |

I like that... a battery powered pump will do nicely. Grecian Statue kind of thing.
All depends on the area, and how willing and how much of a costume/makeup you want to wear. The more makeup, the less clothing you can get away with (if you have the figure) and vice versa.

Good call.
My budget is very wide and if it's fantastic, I'll go ahead. Realistically, I'll happily spend $2K if not more. Do you know any online companies that make good, no nonesence costumes? Again, not sure what character to have, I'm open minded. Best. Neil. |

Mad Hatter magic carries quite a bit of costume stuff, and their prices are always fairly reasonable:

Living statues come in various types.
1. Any movement? The statue that doesn't move at all. One that moves robotic-style only when money is put into the hat. One that becomes fully activated once money is put in - such as interacting with giver. If you do some movement, it will be beneficial for your body health. Dress style: You can be a statue of anything you choose, irrespective of your setting. Or be appropriate to the setting e.g. at harbour be dressed as a pirate, a captain, etc. Or pick up on some historical theme based on your location. I know one who wears sunglasses. That shields his eyes from hours of sunlight. Gives an air of mystery. It also means he can blink, move eyes around to break his boredom, and it isn't noticed by watchers. I was surprised when I talked with one I knew already - he had noticed me on the other side of a busy street. Looking after your health: How will you get movement into your limbs? How to drink from time to time. What reaction by you if someone antagonizes you physically? How will you travel to/from your site while in make-up? You'll have an interesting time as a statue, no doubt.

You could get a set of small pumps used for fish tank and run tube around you and you your self become a fountain. Every time someone drops a coin in a a bucket of water with make a wish written on it you put your foot in it and water shots out of your sleeve.(this is loss based on something I saw done by a street theater compny)
I have also pondered a comedy fortune teller based on the fortune teller from the Tom Hanks film Big. I have also liked the idea of having a curiosity in a case and you explain that in the case is something odd a they will never see anything like it in there life. All they have to do to have a look is cross your palm with gold. You have to be good at telling the story and building the mystery. Once a crowd is gathered some one will pay and take a look and as long as there reaction is strong and they don't blab, every one will look. I have seen a few papepol do this and one good one I saw was Mario Morris you migth want to contact him and see if he is happy to share any of his experiences. Hope these help let us know what happens next.
Enjoy your magic,
and let others enjoy it as well! |

Quite over the top that idea Galagher! Maybe for an adults only theme!
I'm having a plinth that I'll be sat on, with an Invisible Chair. I'm trying to find some inspiration the design and look of the plinth/box, any ideas anyone? Kind regards. Neil. |

People like to try to figure out what's going on. Is it possible for something to happen that is outside your control. Maybe the chair is hydaulically raised and lowered in a random arrangment so people spend quite a bit of time trying to figure out how come there is no uniformity in the rise and fall.
A slow-motion movement of something poking up out of the box. Have you ever seen the group of about 4 statues with white faces and white arabic clothing/drapes where one of them from time to time slowly dips a bubble wand into white bottle of liquid and raises the wand to the lips and blows bubbles out?? Fascinating.

Hey MagiCol.
I do like the thought about the rise and fall idea, sounds really interesting. I haven't seen or heard about the four living statues with their bubble concept. I need to ideally see a video of this to justify whether or not to consider it. Ya, Jerome Murrat is AMAZING! I've seen his performance on YouTube a lot!! I've been looking at a rock formation, to be used as the box I'll be 'sat on', but one thing standing in it's way is the fact that the box has to have a hinged door and I can't think of a way to hide the seem, where the seem of the door meets the rock/box. The rock ideally needs to look solid. If there's no way around it, I'll have to reconsider a rock. Neil. |
