Can't see why not, engraving should make no difference.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

As brittle as they are, I think it would likely break as soon as the engraving tool comes in contact with it.
YMMV

I think you'd be better off trying to paint them rather than engrave them. The kind of priming and painting system that people use on metal figurines like the warhammer characters springs to mind. I'm sure some of the guys that paint them could make some really nice looking rings if they put their minds to it.

Hi invisiticone
It sure would be a safer option alright but would painting them affect the use of it ? By covering em so to speak ! , engraving then would be nice option as I'm sure painting is to and safer but just engraving be a less obvious option ! |

@robbie mcgrath: Sorry about the delay.
I can't see how painting them would affect the use of them, other than using them in some ways chipping the paint off maybe... It should in no way affect the strength of the magnet. I may of course be missing something. |

I "painted" one of mine with clear fingernail polish, in hopes that the gold plating would stay on longer. This did not affect the operation of the ring. No way these things could be engraved - they're almost like pot metal.

Hi all ,
Thanks a mill for all the replies I might just have one knocking about somewhere that didn fit me so if I find it I will use it as a test pilot , still think engraving would look nice but the risk of breaking one that fits is still the delema , nothing ventured and all that I guess , worst case as mentioned is paint which can still look very nice |

Had another idea, you could cover it with a thin layer of putty of some type (wouldn't know brand names, I live in Spain), and engrave that.. You could paint the surface and the indentations in different coulours.. Fiddly, but done with skill could be good.

There are stock PKs out there with the engraving from the "One Ring of Power" (Tolkin Fellowship of the Ring). Found on a routine web search for PK rings

Can anyone advise how much costs a very good PK ring?
