A real loss of a great mind and an amazing "outside the box" thinker.
Thank you for all the great magic! M.

It was only when I read the March edition of Genii that I realised the Dental Dam coin penetration was Lubor Fiedler's. He had it published in an East German magazine, whilst living in the Czech Republic as was. It filtered through into Western Europe and then to the USA. Everybody sold it, and he hardly made a penny out of it.
The article is fascinating and rather inspiring. Apart from detailing Fiedler's creative genius and extraordinary life story, it is also a portrait of what true friendship means; would that we all had a Mark Setteducati in our life. As was the case in Soviet bloc countries at that time, he was sent to a specialist school, with no choice in the matter. Chemistry was decided for him, and after graduating he was sent to work at a chemical plant. He would experiment there, secretly, and produced invisible ink, amongst other things, which he sold to fellow magicians. When this was discovered, his punishment was to be sent to work in a coal mine for two years. |

He was one of the most brilliant technical and creative minds in magic. No one went the places Fielder did with his miniature illusions. I always carry his dice with me. They are pure eye candy, as were all his creations.
