Who here uses regular workmen's tool belts and tool pouches to carry their magic equipment?
I've been looking into beltless, suspended solutions, which I could wear under any jacket, rather than carrying a bag or a case. It distributes the equipment's weight over my shoulders and back, and doesn't tug my jackets out of shape. Downside: they are costly to buy (one brand sells its suspenders for about $160, without any pouches; a full set starts at $240), and thus it might be more affordable to sew my own. Thoughts?

For a magicians version of this look at Www.hicalibermagic.com They are roughly the same price.
Personally, everything they hold is already in my pockets. I saw Kif Anderson use one in 2008 but it doesn't appeal to me. If my pockets are full why would I want to carry anything else. Consider what spares you need first, then work from that point. My current pocket system works for 2x 3 hour shifts in a restaurant (30 plus tables performed at each day). My spares case hasn't been needed yet.

What I did was to sew about 20 pockets inside my jacket.

Bob Solari is selling a vest with 76 (!) pockets for $70. Of course, you're not going to want to load it up and look like the Michelin Man, and some of the pockets are a little odd shaped, but I've found it useful: http://bobsolarimagic.com/shop/Performers-Vest-76-Pockets
And then there's this belt that came out awhile back that is best used under an unbuttoned top shirt or even a jacket: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S13750 That belt won't hold loads like a tool belt will, but it's good for freeing up your pants pockets for other things.

I have two topits, one on each side in my performing jacket. Between them for ditching items, and pockets inside and out, a sportcoat works pretty well.
