Chinese Shuffle for Mnemonica (Stay Stack):
For those familiar with the work of Patrick Patrick G. Redford he teaches in his book Totally Out of Order a way to go into his Redford stack from a genuinely shuffled deck using Brother John Hamman Chinese Shuffle. I have devised an analogous way to go into Mnemonica. Of course, as well as for Redford stack, you don't go directly into the stack but rather into an order which has some symmetry. In our case, we will end into Fournier new deck order + 2 Faros shuffles, meaning to be left with "only" 2 faros shuffles away from the Mnemonica Stay Stack order, leaving 26 cards inversion and last partial faro to end up with Mnemonica order. Here is the sequence (I assume your are familiar with BJH chinese shuffle): First 4 culls : - A 2 3 4 5 6 7 - 8 10 Q 6 4 2 - 9 K A 5 10 4 - J 3 Q 2 K A you end up with the deck in such an order: AAAA KKKK 2222 QQQQ 3333 JJJJ 4444 0000 5555 9999 6666 8888 7777 Then you run a cull for pairs clubs-diamonds then spades-hearts alternatively: CD-SH CD-SH CD-SH CD-SH CD-SH CD-SH CD-SH Then your order the 26 first cards into (Red Black Black Red) sequences inverting then (from the face), and the last 26 cards in RBBR with no inversion. You should end up with the sequence in the picture. Of course, you need 2 additionnal out faros, first 26 cards inversion, and 18 first cards partial additionnal faro to complete the stacking. It takes sereral minutes (3-4) to set up the stack but with no memory effort. But if you follow the work of Patrick Redford, he describes in his book Totally Out of Order, a way to set up such a procedure in front of the audience incorporating it into routines. May be some of you will come with additionnal ideas to take benefits (or not) from this. |
