Mike Powers is one very creative magician. I first learned about him when I purchased his "Holey Terror" effect years ago. That effect took the magic world by storm, and Mike is still going strong to this day.
In this effect, he offers us some real quality and great value for the money. And some top quality props. The effect, briefly, is this: Any card in the deck is named by the spectator. The named card is removed. Then, the entire face up deck SHRINKS! Next, the deck grows, but the selection shrinks! Then the selection visibly grows back! In the second bonus effect, called the Defective Deck, You show a "defective" deck of cards. These cards are said to be factory mistakes. There is for example, a ten of diamonds printed in black. A four of clubs with all the pips printed in the corner of the card, a five of diamonds with all the pips printed in the middle of the card, etc., The effect is that you use magic to fix these cards in a variety of increasingly visual ways, ending with a version of Doug Conn's incredible pip trip. Before I say anything else, let me say that Mr. Powers has included instructions with these effects that are second to none in quality. There is nothing worse, in my estimation, than purchasing an effect, only to find the instructions to be greek, or poorly printed and illegible. This is not the case here. Mike has done a splendid job of making the instructions first rate, and you will therefore find the learning curve greatly reduced. The first effect, Diminishing returns, offers a variety of magical transmutations at a rapid rate, that will have your spectators eyes popping out of their head. In fact, that is exactly what Mike claims for these effects: Eyepopping! The cards are visually stunning, and now printed with Bicycle faces. The printing job on these cards is excellent. The routine is really not all that hard to learn, although I suggest you give it the practice time it deserves to make it a special event for your spectators. And a special event it can be, because Mike has obviously put much time effort and work into making this release the best it can be. You'll find no pipe dreams here. Just good commercial, solid magic, that you will probably perform for the rest of your life. You can see how this effect will amaze spectators, as when you do it in practice, the cards just seem to visually shrink and grow instantly. You will fool your own eyes with this one. A bit of practice, and you will be shrinking and regrowing cards like a pro. I promise. One more thing worth mentioning, and that is this effect is FUN to do! You will really like it. The second effect, defective deck, takes a bit more doing to get going smoothly, but will be well worth every minute you put into it. You will have to look far and wide to find anything as visually arresting as this. The misprinted cards really catch the eye, and rivet attention on the effect. It is quite mesmerizing. The effect ends with a beautiful sequence where the four pips on a misprinted four of clubs are moved to the proper four corners of the card, kind of in the manner of Mike's Holey terror, only in reverse. You have to see it to believe it. It is one of the most magical sequences you can do with a playing card. Beautiful, just plain beautiful. Mike provides every thing you need to stun your audience, except for the practice. You provide that. Everything about this set is real value, and great quality. It will be an excellent purchase to add to your shopping list of new card magic for 2004. I highly reccomend this, and wil give it my unreserved **** four star rating. You can buy this from Mike at http://www.mallofmagic.com. Tell Mike that Daffy Doug sent you! By the way. One thing I forgot to mention: Mike's service to his customers is fast, efficient, and courteous. He really treats you like his number one customer, and lets you know that your order is very important to him. He is honest, ehtical, and would never steer you wrong. You can buy from this man with confidence. If you want high quality magic at an affordable price, then you should give Mike's site a visit. I promise you will not be sorry.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.
