Hello billsingh,
I'm sorry but that's not a forum to disclose the secrets of magic to/for everybody. Study magic think about that stuff and find it out for yourself, this will be the only here to find out. Yours sincerely Prometheus

Hi billsingh! Welcome to the Café! You just want to know how they are done, or are you looking to learn and perform them? It would also help to know your ability level! Thanks!

Yeah, sorry my friend. No can do. I understand your wanting to know. These are exclusive performers that have spent many years creating their acts. After doing magic for forty years, I still am fooled by some. Cyril is one of them. I don't want to know! I love it when I have no idea!
It's "tricks". That's all it is. There IS such a thing as real Magic, but you don't want to go anywhere near that! Look, you can find books on performing all over the internet. Find an effect ("trick") you can do easily and practice it over and over. Show it to someone when you are ready. Then you will see the value in what we do... Doug |

A bit of good advice given to me a few years ago is to remember the wonder, As you study and practice and hopefully perform the wonder fades as you concentrate more and more on the many aspects of presenting magic. Enjoy the wonder, and some day you can pass it along to others.

I suspect that many of those tricks are done with the powerful combination of knowledge plus practice. Lots and lots of practice.
I'm just a hobbyist, but this is a great hobby to get into. As suggested above, get a good book on beginner magic and start from there. Don't worry about stuff on YouTube or the net, it's mostly bad or unethical. Start properly: get a resource by a trusted professional. There's loads of book recommendations people will give you, and Magic for Dummies is as good a place to start as any. Alternatives might include Mark Wilson's Complete Course, The Amatuer Magician's Handbook, possibly even Zenon's Street Magic. And many others. I don't think it really matters, one good general book is all you need at first - then I suspect you'll start getting specific resources (cards, coins etc). Enjoy the experience! . And remember: magicians keep the secret! |

Most time when you find out the secret it is not as amazing as you would think. Some magic is very simple but it still fools people as much as complicated tricks and routines.

I watched the video you linked, it is a great example of the secret of magic. The real secret is not the moves but the presentation. It took me several years enjoying magic as a hobby to figure this out, even though I heard many professionals reference this fact repeatedly. When I started performing magic shows for audiences outside of family and friends I learned the importance of developing routines, scripting, and developing performance. Watch the video again. The judges loved his magic because of his presentation and story, that is what made it stand out from all the other magicians. A dozen other magicians could perform the same slights that he performed and bore the audience and judges. If you want to perform magic, learn the moves but also watch that video until you hear why the judges considered his routine superior to so many other magicians who have performed for them. The comments of the judges will give you a great education in what it takes to entertain with magic instead of boring people with magic. As Mr. Oslund said above, make it fun.

HOWEVER! the audience (and judges) were ENTERTAINED. It's a "hard" lesson to learn, but, if one is going to succeed as a magical ENTERTAINER, one MUST learn--and really UNDERSTAND--that MAGIC IS NOT INHERENTLY ENTERTAINING. KIS MIF!!!!!
