Hi, I am involved in research and training involving emergency first responders and how the brain can be misled in high stress situations. I am looing at how magic - particularly distracton and cognitive overload, can mirror what happens to the brain in high stress highly volatile situations (eg inattenional blindness, change blindness, etc).
I have used a variety of effects in my teaching and found them to be powerful at keeping the attention of my students (firefighters, paramedics, police, etc) and engage them in the more theoretical neuropsychology that follows. I am seeking to be better informed about various effects that can be used to illustrate neuropsych principles (without of course revealing craft secrets!) and to get more skilled in their use. |
