Hopefully somebody can identify the magician for me. It was during the 1960s that I saw the performance of a Chinese magician who performed the Chinese Linking Rings. What impressed me was that he combined the Rings with Trained Canaries. At his command, the canaries would perch and jump from ring to ring. There were some other stunts they did too, but I don't recall them specifically, since it was, after all, way back in the 1960s.
So can anybody identify that magician for me? |

You saw this where? U.S. or in another country? Television or live performance? I ask because I only know of 3 magicians that featured canaries in their acts in the old days. None of them did the Linking Rings to my knowledge.
Regular Linking Rings are to smooth and small in circumference for a bird to try and get a good footing. That is just plain cruel and will give them arthritis in the feet. |

When I was using doves, I wanted to do the bit with two birds perched on a ring, which was rotated and the birds would ride the "ferris wheel". I checked with Recil Bordner at Abbott's. He had a few left over HOLLOW linking rings. They were thick enough that the birds could get a good grip, and I used that bit for almost 25 years. I could see the problem with "skinny" rings, though. I, too, have no idea who the Chinese magician was, either.
