Is it just me, or does anyone else find it a little creepy that Sean has copied David's hair style almost perfectly?

Secret Box looks like the Rattle Box. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/778 I wonder if it works the same way?
I'm glad I didn't order String Theory. Don't need more cluster in my drawer. Thanks to the Wizard Review.

Fact is Mr. Mendoza, if you are going to basically re-invent a classic, then it has to be BETTER, or add something, to be as good as the original. This just doesn't have that 'moment' of magic. It's a long drawn out plot (and by all accounts, an even longer drawn out prep) for something that's over in literally less than a second. And maybe it was just a bad camera angle, but the necessary work looked so obvious, that I can't for the life of me understand how this actually fools people (particularly when surrounded). The little pot - can't believe you even wasted time on it to be honest. Would have much rather seen something from the 2015 Tenyo range. Prediction - similar to that clip for the little rattle pot, is this the new gimmick used on instructional DVD's - giving the dem a story plot as if you are watching a film? If so, thank the Lord I read books. Anyway, have to entirely agree with Shaun with his summing up of this. "The props look classy" Dave said. Dave.........its a bloody vinyl wallet! Even with a couple of fifty quid notes sticking out of it, a vinyl wallet will NEVER look classy mate! The method for the two card reveal is also woeful - the kind of process you read in a book of card magic out of a supermarket. The shapes on the actual brass 'talismans' - not clear and under poor lighting, at larger tables, would potentially go unnoticed as they lack visibility. Why not make one of them a circle and the other a square? This is the typical lack of thought that goes into so much of today's magic. Good show compère-wise with the two guys gelling together well. However, I still preferred to watch the show filmed at the studio at the old shop - better sound quality and camera work. Best wishes to everyone at The WPR for 2015.

The secret box was out 8 or 10 years ago, I though it was a Grant item, but it could have been an early Magic Maker's item. It was just packaged in a plastic bag and a small piece of paper with instructions.
It is just a 'gag' item. No magic trick. The box is laying on a table. Someone visiting see the box and like many curious people picks it up and shakes the box. They finally open the box and find nothing, or you could offer to open the box and show them what is inside, nothing. It cannot be examined until the magician opens and handle the box. You then can make up any story you want, old ghost, long lost trinket but the essence is left behind, etc. It leaves the person with a funny feeling, that has to be handled to be realized by the sucker. My opinion is a magician would try to make a trick out it, it would kill the illusion and feeling it gives the sucker rattling it. It is not strong enough to warrant even a Okito Coin Box move of dumping the coin out. Another draw back to the gimmick, is you cannot touch it, as it will then reveal it's existence. So fingers cannot be placed inside the box. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Prediction is another Magic Maker's item. Enough said. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- String Theory, this is a Murphy's Magic product, they want to keep the new products flooding the market to keep sales up. They are not producing magic tricks to offer quality magic to the fraternity, but to keep their cash flow coming in. None of these is magic that a working performer would even consider. They are products intended for the unknowing general public. I have never seen a good quality product produced by Magic Maker's, all are poorly made in China, and they sell their stuff for only a few dollars telling dealer they can make 400% profits, that is why, one dealer sells something for $15 and another can sell it for $5. So if you purchase a Magic Maker's product, you will most likely be ripped off on the price you paid. I am sure the main reason for reviewing these products was to simply make very high profits on each sale. I do not recommend any of the Magic Maker's products, except maybe their special decks of cards. |

JackMagic,
I would normally agree with you, but in this case I understand the routine and the method. KJ |

I'm with Dave on The Prediction. It's simple and has been getting great reactions. The coins are nice and it's fun, involving the specs in the decision making process.
The wallet just holds the cards, so its perfectly fine. good effect. |

What is it about Gypsy thread effects that people are so in love with?
The method jumps out at you, the routine is frequently cheesy, and it's boring. Don't see how it would fool anyone, and it's certainly not a work of art. Please don't yell at me, it's just my opinion . |

Naww, wouldn't yell at ya, Doob'! I think it's the story. A good performer can get emotion from people with this. It's all in HOW you present it.

I agree, Doug. I think it is also about the audience. Sometimes I do the Gypsy Thread, and sometimes I'm prepared to do it, but don't. I like to do the gypsy thread in a way that is inspirational and can be life changing. Some audiences just aren't in that frame of mind, some are.

I've never understood the appeal of Gypsy Thread. You're tearing up a piece of thread. On stage. No one can see a *** thing.
