Let's say, hypothetically, someone hypes a new book/effect and solicits information (email addresses, effect ideas) from Café members when, in actuality, the book/effect in question does not exist.
What recourse, if any, is there to address such a scam? Thanks |

It's called common sense. What would do if you got an email from someone asking for your personal information, would you respond? I don't think so. Why would the Café be any different? I always say if you are nieve enough to give out your personal information, then you deserve what you get.

I'm not talking about an email requesting information.
I'm talking about a member of the Café saying, here on the Café, "Please give me your email address for more information." The information being obtained is the email address and/or any effects/suggestions someone supplies in addition. I apologize if I wasn't clear. I hope you're not suggesting that on a "magicians helping magicians" web site we should refrain from providing contact information to one another to be on the safe side. |

You were clear and I think my response was correct. Regardless of whether it's a request on the Café or a spam email, it's the responsibility of the each person to decide whether or not to respond. It is not the responsibility of the Café to stop someone from asking for information.

If it is established that is is a scam, is the solicitor subject to any sanctions, such as being banned?

As with any situation on the Café, every issue is evaluated on an individual basis and if necessary, action will be taken but again, that doesn't necessarily dictate a ban.
