Reading a book and came across a few words that made me stop and read it again. Then pause, and read it again. Then close the book and ponder a little.
"The dictionary definition of silence: 'stillness; without sound' is not all inclusive. He who has sat under the stars in quiet country knows that the silence of the night may be filled with soft sound; rustle of breeze in the leaves, trickle of brook, song of insects, which accentuate, rather than break, the silence."

Just really enjoyed that. I love it when a sentence or a paragraph can make me pause.

Very nice, magicfish. Peaceful. Unaccentuated silence, on the other hand, would be unnerving, I think. Inspire one to have one's hearing checked, perhaps.

There is a place in Washington State called Hurricane Ridge, at the peak of which the sense of silence is overwhelming and truly awe-inspiring. Especially at sunset. Unfortunately, when I visited, there was one other vehicle present, where the four occupants insisted on keeping their engine running and the radio playing.
