It's a 12CD-Rom course. Not sure how effective it is.

I attended Paul Daniels' MasterClass in Chicago last spring. Although he had a wealth of information, he is a bit shady in some of his dealings, in my opinion. There was one story that he told us of how he got publicity in a city where he wasn't known. It was a great story, but that's all it was - a story. I just happen to live in the city where he supposedly got all this publicity, and flat out, it just never happened.
There are other examples of how he custom designs an illusion for a client (it's already built), charges them a pretty penny for it, then offers to take it off their hands at the end of the performance at no additional charge. He then sells that same custom built illusion to the next client with the same story. Now that's a good way to make money, but I consider it a little shady. Don't get me wrong, Paul Daniels is a great performer, and one of the funniest guys I've ever had the pleasure to watch. But he lost my respect with some of his business practices. That's just not the way I want to do business. There are lots of other magic business courses on the market including many by members of this site. I'd much rather do business with them. |

Hi Jon!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. When he first advertised this course, he offered a sample lesson and a free quality magic gift. Well the gift was a VERY cheaply made ball and tube. He would have been best to not offer it, beacuse the quality was so bad.

Hi Chris,
The "quality magic gift" is what made me decide that the rest of the course could not be good. |

I also got the free CD-ROM from Paul. I laughed when an extremely monotonous man droned about "If it wasn't for this course, I would not have realised I was not cut out for comedy magic". If you need a course for that, then you need help!
There were also some tricks available - the same ones that came with one of his old kiddies magic sets! Paul is (unfairly) regarded as a has-been in the UK. Unfortunately, he doesn't help things by coming across as extremely bitter about him no longer being famous. Its like he cannot accept that everything has a finite shelf life. Jon, I agree about some of his more shady practices.I attended one of his shows, and he was hawking Svengali decks for about £30. Considering you can buy a half-decent pack from the joke shop for less than a fiver, I felt sorry for him. On the plus side, Debbie Mcgee squeezed my bottom whilst inching past me to sign autographs with Paul.Made my day - and the other blokes jealous! Ben |
