Here in LA, we have a Mayor that is a twin for Phil. I do a doubletake every time he climbs in front of a camera. I keep thinking Phil is going into politics.
I like Manny. He is, season by season, growing into a very good actor. If he gets another series where he can deliver at a normal speed, with some subtlety, he'll be one to watch. That show barrels thru lines like a snowplow. The reruns offer stronger shows, but that whole batch of personalities and quirks wears you out if you see it every day. Once a week, it's sorta fresh. Everyday? Exhausting! Like living with your Crazy Aunt instead of visiting.

Lol I say that every time I see Garcetti! It's hard to ten him seriously when he looks so much like Phil.

I like Phil the best, the kid who plays his son used to be a decent actor when he was young, but now I think he's a terrible actor and I kind of cringe when he's on. The rest of the cast is great. Great show.

As for Only Fools and Horses that was more of a comic soap opera than a pure sit-com which is why it could last so long. Re the original question, my favourite character was Jay (Ed O'Neill). I think he is a very good comic actor.

A bit of Modern Family trivia:
"The Los Angeles home used as the fictional family residence of Phil and Claire Dunphy on ABC's 'Modern Family' has sold for $2.15 million." http://www.latimes.com/business/realesta......ory.html
Make America Great Again! - Trump in 2020 ... "We're a capitalistic society. I go into business, I don't make it, I go bankrupt. They're not going to bail me out. I've been on welfare and food stamps. Did anyone help me? No." - Craig T. Nelson, actor.

From most-liked to least (all of this is my opinion only, of course):
1.) Phil - his obliviousness and nerdy personality never gets old to me. 2.) Mitchell - even better than his dad at the sarcastic remark, which is saying something. 3.) Haley - sometimes vapid, sometimes amazingly stupid, sometimes clever in an evil way, and to me always funny. 4.) Alex - I love the way she toys with her siblings. She needs more screen time. 5.) Jay - Usually funny, but I've grown very weary of his overboard love for the dog he originally didn't want. 6.) Claire - too much of the whole obsessive-compulsive-neurotic thing for my taste. 7.) Cameron - I've lost my ability to find him overreacting to every little thing amusing. 8.) Manny - unbelievably annoying, but comes up with enough funny stuff to keep him out of last place. 9.) Gloria - very nice to look at, but loses almost all of her appeal the second she opens her mouth. 10.) Luke - rarely given any funny lines anymore, and played by someone who just cannot act. |

I think Manny and Cameron are the funniest.
Phil is extremely irritating. The dumb kid is, well .... dumb. I like to look at Claire. |

Props to Luke... who knew?
"Unlike his trouble-maker "Modern Family" character Luke Dunphy, Gould is anything but doltish. With an IQ of 150, the young actor is a member of Mensa, the largest high IQ society in the world." And he graduated from High School at the age of 13.

He's still a lousy actor (not that I'd be any better, but at least I could be stupid without acting!)

I'd say T was a good actor too. Vast difference between his true character and that on the screen.

I just started watching this show in the past couple of months and am now a certified Modern Family junkie. It never fails to make me laugh and it certainly is not due to a laugh track telling me when it is funny ... since there is none. Everyone is over the top funny. No favorites.
