You said you don't do tricks for her any more. So both you and her now miss out on moments of enjoyable wonder and magic all because someone exposed on YTube and she sought them out.

I always "test" my new tricks and skills on my kids! They enjoy the tricks and are also very savy!

I perform for my friends because of their honesty and interest. There isn't a one size fits all answer to thus question,it depends on your friends and family. I don't perform for my grandmother because she is grabby and I'm tired of slapping her hands. I love my grandmother by the way shes one of my best friends

I have a very clever friend who DESPREATLY tries to find out about the method every single time I show him something. Probably because most his self-esteem derives from his intelligence so he hates to be tricked. He is a kind of benchmark for me. If he can not figure it out, I know everything is in order

I actually started by learning while unemployed. I learnt a card trick during the day, and if I was ready, would show it her on her return. She really enjoyed them.

I am just starting with magic, so I just perform for friends at reunions. I hope this is the correct situation to start. I practice one or two tricks that I try to show them. The self-working are great, but when it comes to other, I always feel the great pressure of being caught. But I try to perform the best I can. I try to do something they do not expect at that moment, and this works good fine with my clueless friends, but it is too hard with the ones who always want to catch the trick.

What I have learned with an audience that you know and who knows you is that do NOT try to do tricks with people who have already tried to outsmart you. There are types of people who feel competitive and will deliberately ruin your trick. Even if you have a back up trick to do if they ruin your move, it's not worth it. They will find a way to ruin your next trick, too. These are negative people. Close up the deck, put it back in the box and say, yeah... bad vibes. It may be friends, students, family, whomever. Don't give them the pleasure of ruining your trick that you worked so hard on.
I have had instances of being heckled or of someone deliberately messing up the deck to destroy the trick. So I just stop. They are the ones who end up looking stupid and mean, but it's a bummer and who needs that when you just want to have some fun! |

For me the magic bug was rekindled with a cheap halloween magic set, entertain the kids I thought, put on a show! Years on, I have to bribe them to sit still to watch a new trick!
The secret with kids is to give them something to hold, they feel part of it and enjoy it more. |
