I've been surprised at the sheer amount of "stuff" that's been released on DVD recently in the world of magic.
There has been so much released, that I can't wade through all of it to decide what is worth purchasing. Unfortunately, I'm sure not all of what's out there is excellent. Since I prefer to learn from books and choose my DVD's carefully, I would like to ask for your help. What are the GREAT, must have DVD's out there? Not just ones that are "good" in your opinion, but those that rise above the rest. My favorites that I own are Bill Malone "On the Loose" and Doc Eason's "Bar Magic" set. I feel that these are a cut above most stuff out there. |

Darren,
Bill Malone's and Doc Eason's videos are some of my favorites too. I think you will also be very pleased with Johnny Thompson's Commercial Classics of Magic. There are 4 Volumes and they are worth every penny, if you ask me. |

The Roberto Giobbi, Tommy Wonder, David Regal (both new and old), Richard Osterland, Michael Finney and John Guastaferro videos are all full of inspiration, information and entertainment. Excellent buys in my opinion.

Well, my field of interest is pretty wide. I do have the David Roth Expert Coin Magic Made Easy trio and love them. I am partial to cards, but do like variety.
Thanks all for your advice so far. Looks like I have some research cut out for me!!! I do like the variety of suggestions I'm seeing. The fact that we all like different stuff will keep magic fresh and exciting for years to come! |

I have yet to see a Magic Makers DVD that was not well worth the price. Gerry Griffin's work "Complete Card Magic volumes 1-7" and "Gerry's Lucky Sevens" offer killer effects and then there's Sal Piacente's Lecture Notes and Mindbender. Also good productions. Good Luck.

Hmm you guys seem to be reinforcing the idea of the huge number of dvds that are available to us today by listing your different favourite videos and whatnot. Well, I guess different folks tend to enjoy different kinds of performers and magic which explains the large amounts of dvd for magic available to us.

I agree with you Uli Weigel on the Johnny Thompson Commercial Classic 4 vol set. It is about as close to Stars Of Magic on DVD as it will ever get.
Recently the Osterlind DVD's are essential for anyone with a moderate interest in mentalism and there are some great non mental items too! Last but not least Tommy Wonder is the greatest, his stuff may be difficult to put together but watching him perform is what magic should really look like. Hearing his thoughts on magic and the detail he puts in each effect is inspiring. This is a must have set of DVD's for any magician! |
