I received some information from the company DirectCatering.com. They told me I could receive leads from them for free. That I would only have to pay for the leads I used. (I'm paraphrasing what I remember.) What turns out to happen is this: They send you an email when someone requests a magician in your area (mine is Illinois). You click on the link and there is some general information about the gig. To get the contact information for this gig you have to pay $2.00. Now it all sounds like a load of hooey (I was born on a farm so "hooey" is an acceptable term) to me. Has anyone ever dealt with these people? If so, how did it turn out.

I have also received a few "come-on" e-mails from this company.
I am curious to know their level of legitamacy as well... http://www.directcatering.com/index.jsp Lyndel |

It sounds like they are making money on leads and whatever you get is what you get. There is no sense in paying $2 for a lead that is being sold to several other entertainers at the same time. If you paid for the gig if you got it would be one thing or if the first respondant was the exclusive owner of the lead.

I gave it a shot. I've been on line with them for 30 days. Cost to me? $0.16. Number of leads? 0, as of January 31. I get a statement at the end of each month. They have $40 to play with...should keep me listed about 20 years. They charge me $.02 per view of my ad and $2 for me viewing a lead, but as I've said...nothing to date. I'll try anything once just as a test.

You do have to test things out for yourself to see if they work for you. You never do know unless you try. For now, I have better luck and control doing my own lead generation. it seems to be really working quite well for me so I will sick with it.

Ok, here's an update for the month of February. 3 leads, all for birthday partys. The closest one was 95 miles away, the furthest 420; so I didn't bite on any of them.
UPDATE June 3, 2004 Here is my update for DirectCatering.com ending May 31, 2004. Since February 5 more leads. Not one was for a magician. Clown, Face Painter, and impressionist of some Hip Hop performer, I'm not familiar with. So I'm thinking of dumping them...doesn't cost too much (I've spent less than a dollar for the past five months), but doesn't seem worth the time. I'll give it through the summer and then pull the plug, I think.
