There are many tricks, and many effects, but rarely a Grand Effect. There are many entertainers, but few real magicians. Many technicians, but few artists who use their art to explore their vision. - Derren Brown, Absolute Magic

Penguin Magic has 'Pen through Finger' by Matthew Johnson ( similar to Paul's Magicbox link above)
Single card equivocation - there is a good one on Colin Mcleod's 'Opening Minds' dvd. I am also a big fan of the 'trapdoor' style effect where the card turns inside out under a hank. There are some nice pieces of simple origami that work - you could turn a 'hopping halfs' coin into a 'hopping' frog... |

It's a little bold but, I like think of a card and that is the one card on the table. Not 100% but, when it hits it's jarring.

I like Invisible card by Blake. It is so convenience and powerful. But It is a gimmick card.

"Conflictus" is an old one-card trick from the 1950's that seems to have disappeared in the 1970's, so I brought it back and included it as one of the four Hypno-Trix in The Wizards' Journal #30. You have a single card that you show first to one side of the audience and then to the other side of the audience before putting it into an envelope. Both sides of the audience claim that they saw a different card. When the envelope is opened, they are both wrong and the card is seen to be something else entirely.

With ONLY ONE folded card held inside a closed fist, and using a principle in J.K. Hartman's Trickery Treats, one can perform a simplified version of Invisible Card, which is totally gimmickless. Of course, Blake Vogt's handling is more engaging.
Similarly, by using the principle of Kenton Knepper's Kolossal Killer and various ideas of revelations found in the literature, one can even perform the ultimate No-Card card trick. |

That Linking effect was awesome, Harry!
This doesn't use 1 card (it uses 4) but the audience only sees 1 and its very easy to carry with you, and that's JoshuaJays Inferno.
The more I learn, the less I seem to know.

And if it wasn't already mentioned OCL by Ben Williams in just hands down ridiculous! One of the most truly impossible objects ever (and you get to hand it out!)
The more I learn, the less I seem to know.

Kenton Knepper's "Kolossal Killer" could be considered a 'one card trick' - spectator names any card and it's the only one in your wallet - Penguin just released it as an eBook download - http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S16464

I've been vanishing a deck except for the selection and then going into Industrial Revelation by Jamie Grant, it's been working well.
