The one where you have a hidden object passed around among several spectators to prove it's really there, and the last spec happens to be a friend of yours.

Hmmm.

Silly me, I thought this thread was going to be about a girl named Lucy.
"Now here's the man with the 25 cent hands, that two bit magician..."

There was the trick were Houdini got locked into a telephone booth and could not get out.
By a layman no less.

From that point on, he kept at least one foot out so it would not happen again.

I heard that someplace, in a different but (I think) funnier version -

Way back when, the Lambs Club in NYC became one of the very first places in the country to install a novel item called a "phone booth".

A few days after, one of the club members was walking by the booth when he heard somebody inside rattling & pounding on the door. Approaching, he heard somebody calling, "How the heck do you get out of this thing!?!?"

It was Harry Houdini.

(Much better story when you don't know the punchline ahead of time.)

For the youngsters out there, a phone booth looked kind of like a Tardis. It had a folding glass door that actually could be sort of difficult to work from the inside.

I can not site my source, but the version I read was while Houdini was making a call, someone slip a broom into the booth handle (preventing the folding door from opening).

Eventually he was released to much embarressment.
