I owned it and it is good, need replacement pieces for each show. Tubes are plastic, and will last.

Easy to make, but PVC pipe is a little thick, so I used clear plastic mailing tubes and spray painted them black.

Plastic is tough enough to stand the strain of many performances, but you could certainly make them of paper or cardboard if you only intend to use them a few times and then make another set. The original was made of thin metal - copper or brass, I believe.

I believed the Silk King Studios (Rice) advertisement for "Transpo-Silko" - "Avoid cheap imitation tubes made from cardboard by ordering through Silk King Studios." The tubes I bought at Mecca Magic in the 1960's were made of thin metal, probably cut from copper or brass pipes and then polished and painted, but these days even Rice Transpo-Silko tubes are made of plastic.
To help make the trick easier, I now use craft glue dots and tissue paper bands.

The ones I received, as I remember in the late 1970's were very nice thick black plastic tubes. They worked very well and looked nice and a pleasure to use. I would have never guessed the secret of such a simple trick. It has all the makings for a very good trick. Action and mystery. Rice's instructions says they can supply more of the gimmicks in the instructions. I am sure Ruth has a good supply still available. This is one of those sleeper trick, that with the right presentation will mystify and entertain all ages.

While you are making up your mind how to build this, consider the advantage of making the tubes rectangular (plastic, wood or metal) and making the central bands simply change color without the need for sliding. Making the trick self-contained eliminates the need for disposals and makes it possible to show empty hands at all times.
