Hey everyone hope all is well and hats have been fat. I have a few questions I was hoping you all might be able to answer. So some quick backstory. For the last four years I have made my living as Barista, at a coffee shop doing magic behind the bar along with walking table to table on slow nights. In between that I worked a few festivals, and the local town square doing less street shows and more table hopping Esq magic because kd the set up. Well I just moved from Houston where busking was very very frowned upon to Austin. I still work a coffee shop, but want to try my hand at really busking more than just the occasional once a month.
First question has anyone here worked Austin before? What were your experiences? Any trouble? I know 6th street is pretty busy, but full of drummers and such. The sidewalks are fairly small as well. South congress is full of family's all the time all day, but also the streets are jammed with cars and small sidewalks. I don't plan to do huge shows more like small doorways and perhaps the occasional 12 to 15 minute half circle at best. The second question is to anyone who knows the lasso trick. How well does it preform on the street. Specifically gaeton blooms lasso card. Which would end with the hat in my hand. My show would be so far as such Crowded draw TT/color change ala chilini Open with quick one coin routine to jumbo or sponges if not windy CR rope or David Williamson-esq rope and ring either ending on rope through neck to prove the rope is whole ( running comedy gag) And using the same rope to do the lasso rope card trick from the hat. Signed or not Any information, tips, or even good luck wishes would be helpful. Thank you guys for taking the time to check this out, and hope once again all is well! |
