In an effort to help raise money for the restoration of Houdini's grave site, We have organized a small fundraiser that will raise $10,000 toward the restoration. A commemorative coin is being minted in a series of 20 of the greatest magicians. Each coin will benefit a different magic related charity or cause. The coins will sell for $20 with $10 from each coin sold, going to the Houdini grave site restoration.
if you would like to reserve one, you can order them here: http://www.graywaterops.com/magic-coins/......-1-of-20 under MAGIC COINS in the online store. Click here to view attached image. |

Hmmm,
1) I thought that the Houdini grave site HAD been restored. 2) I see one of the coins in the set is Erdnase... What did he look like? 3) What are the coins made of? What is their actual value in today's market? 4) Each coin supports a different charity? What are the other charities? The Vernon coin looks cool, but I think these are fair questions.

Working with Mike Snyder and David Bowers for the Houdini Gravesite restoration fund.
Each coin in the series will be different and may have something other than a portrait. While narrowing down the list, Erdnase was one we wanted to keep but you bring up a good point..... not sure what we will use on that specific coin! Details will be ironed out as the series progresses. We're making the coins in the series one at a time. The coins are die struck with a brass core. 1.75" diameter and 3.5mm thick, weighing about 1.2oz or more per coin. The market value today is the $20 sale price. The charities will be selected as we move on to each coin but we're certainly open to suggestions as the purpose is to help magic related non-profits raise money. I've made a slight modification to the design and added the magician's real name and their birth and death dates to the coin. Click here to view attached image. |

If we can't nail down an accurate name for Erdnase, we can replace him with someone else but that's a coin that we wouldn't be minting until next year anyway so no worries. :o)

The SAM have announced a new restoration, including finally restoring the missing headstones for Gladys and Leo that were damaged and removed in 1993. And I believe the fund goes to general upkeep as well.

Update.
The headstones will not be restored by the SAM. Sometime last year we paid a deposit to the monument company approved by the cemetery and have contracted to restore the missing headstones. They will be placed there sometime after the summer as funds come available. We have aeveral Houdini projects on the table. The donations from Houdini fans to help with these are greatfully appreciated. Respectfully, Dorothy Diectrich and Dick Brookz

Oh, so the headstones are not part of the SAM restoration? Sorry, I thought they were going to be part of a "phase 2".

We are now accepting recommendations for WHAT magic organizations should receive funds from each of the 20 coins in the series. Here are the only coins we have magic charities attached to. If you operate (or know of) a magic related charity and would like to receive up to $10K in donations from the sale of one of the coins in the series, please message me or leave a comment.
