Hi all,
I'm looking into linking finger ring effects that can be performed in a closeup setting. Shimshi performs a close up linking finger rings in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9Sn0lG7w0s at 2:40. It looks like David Regal's version but I'm not sure. Any input on this video, or other linking finger rings for close up, would be much appreciated. Thanks

That is Joe Porper ring. The pencil is the identical gimmick as sold and explained in the Al Koran Linking Finger Ring manuscript, available on line in PDF format. The routine as shown can be done with any of the Linking Finger Rings on the market, even the ones from China.
What you don't see is that most likely he was using stooges in the street people to create false illusion of actually using other peoples rings. Unless you study all the different Himber Linking Finger Ring routines, you will not know this, as I have. He also has an unlinking on that video that is in the $300 Nick Lewin Linking Finger Ring routine only, no rings come with the routine. As a side note, all the Linking Finger Rings can be performed close-up as you see in the video you referenced. What you don't see all the video staff and cameraman standing there controlling the people. In real life, how would you handle a person who just grabs the rings out of your hand. This is something you have to think about and come up with a solution. To do it as you see it, do you have a guy that will follow you around and join the crowds you build, to make it seem like the ring is not yours. This is some of the facts of trying to do this trick close-up, and doing it on video close-up. You are assuming that the video is being totally honest and truthful in the presentation. Many stage magician that do this trick, use a stooge as well to lend a ring. It is easier that way to fool people such as yourself into believing there is real magic. I would like to suggest you what the video on computer screen full screen. You should see what I discovered in doing so. |

I always feel like people just scream stooge, or camera tricks, when they don't understand something. I'm not very knowledgeable on the topic of linking finger rings, so I didn't want to jump to any conclusions. Thanks for the input.

There has to be a gaffed ring. If the performer borrows three rings, one of the spectators (stooge) must supply the "magic" ring. If he uses his own and borrows two rings, well, you guessed it.

If 2 of the borrowed rings look like each other, or if one of the borrowed ring looks like the gaff, you don't need a stooge
