Is it that book? If so you can oftentimes find these at stores like Ross. We have some book boxes from there. You could then put your own inserts in it for storage, etc.

I've seen some really big ones at Ross. You could also make one.

I love that case myself, but I suspect he had that made, or at least altered, because I've seen him flip the top over for dice stacking. It is an awesome case though.

That one is my Parlour Case and I have a smaller one that is my Close-Up Case. The first 10 or so page are normal and the rest of the book is hollowed out and is a big cavity. I put dividers in there to house all of my props like dice stacking cup and dice, shell games, fast and loose, cards etc. I got it custom made from a bindery in Arizona about 20 years ago. Chef Anton

That is a beautiful case. I asked a friend who owns a huge used bookshop to save me any huge decent shaped books she gets for a project like that.

I'm sitting here wondering if this wouldn't be a good business to get into but I am wondering what magicians would pay for it. Maybe a $200 price point?
You could make different sizes for different needs. Maybe even some kind of optional gaff effect such as a trap door, a remote control electro-magnet, a remote control smoke option, a card or coin producer, or perhaps a small elevator for a production. Humm.... the gears are slowly turning.

I think the hardest part would be to find a dependable source of giant books.
I used to know a guy who was allegedly involved with moving contraband books across the iron curtain.. after the wall fell he started making booksafes, can safes, basically modifying household objects to hide stuff. He has a small leatherbound Bible with a belt type latch to keep it closed.. it was cut out for a really tiny .22 revolver, 6 bullets and a knife made out of some kind of plastic. |

I have a "spare" 1898 Britannica set that I bought for $5 way back... SOme of the bindings were pretty shot... but I might give it a try. They are about three inches thick. The only thicker book I have come across is a huge Dictionary... Its about 6 inches thick. It has a new looking cover. All shiny and definitely not the look I want.
I know I have books on making books... You might be right... to get the perfect look it might have to be from scratch. |

You basically start with a box with a lid......

If you cannot find one gigantic book like Chef Anton uses, perhaps gluing two (or three?) old leather-bound books (from a set) together, and then cutting out the "collective insides"? As an aside, perhaps the two glued books (or a single book) could be compartmentalized so that the major cut-out contains the majority of the contents but, when the glued books are turned over and the bottom cover now opened, it will contain just enough space to house your closeup pad and/or dice stacking piece of fiber board). Or, the two compartments can be essentially of equal size...and each contain the props for a separate set of routines? Or...?
Magic is a vanishing Art.
