I have a set of sponge balls and a shell. However, the sponge is ORANGE and the shell is flocked BRASS. I have the instructions and they refer to (1973) as being "this date". But there is no company name, manufacturer, address or other identifying info.
My question: Does anyone know who made these? |

Goshman made a set of orange sponge balls back then. I would guess they are Goshman. Can't believe the sponge is any good by now. As I remember Goshman's came with plastic flocked shells. So maybe I am mistaken. I do remember the orange sponge balls back then. They could be by Magic Inc. also. Best to dig out your instructions, most people mistakenly put them in a 3 ring binder. Then forget where they put them.

Frank Yuen, I think you might be correct. I have heard mentioned the "brass" shell for their Multiplying Golf balls. Also, the instructions do include a line I had missed, about using an Ireland ball holding gimmick with them. The foam isn't bad really. Slightly darker than gimmick, maybe.

I'm quite sure that Magic Inc. put the Chicago Balls out. (Ha! I just did ANOTHER "Charlie Miller"!)
Frances could no longer get the good "golf" balls. She would need to cull through every shipment and discard too many. (The manufacturer's dies were old, and there would be "holes" in the surface of the "golf" balls." The manufacturer said: "They're cat toys! Cats don't care!"

I had a half dozen of these. But, they were white. They matched the Ireland sh*l just fine.
The Ireland shl came in white. They could easily (I think) be repainted to match. I have a few Ireland shls that I am not using.....I could be persuaded to part with a couple...

The original Ireland shell had a criss-cross pattern, not the dimplaed pattern, as I recall. The later yellow golf balls that were sponge rather than rubber had the dimple pattern.
I think the paint on the original balls also tended to harden and chip. The original Ireland golf balls came in a variety of packaged sets. One was a sh*** with three balls, the other two sh****s and I think four balls. I liked the routine that came with the Ireland instructions that used two sh**lls. It enabled you to multiply one ball to four without having to make a steal or rotate your body. ----- Amado "Sonny" Narvaez
