Completely agree with Wizard product review and their thoughts on streaming videos. When I buy something I like to see a DVD or if not a download. I don't know who thought of this streaming idea for magic trick tutorials but it's not good. I have many streaming magic tutorials, so what happens if the company goes out of business, all the instructions are lost. I feel I only have half of the goods that I have ordered when the instructions are streamed. I either want a DVD a download or better still both. If you want to sell your tricks at a later date then without a DVD people are unlikely to want them.

What happens when in 2 years time you decide to sell an effect that the instructions were streaming, only to discover the site no longer exists. We all know we can click on recent posts even here on the Café and they have vanished, streaming instructions = dealer saving money. It's up to us not to buy these products.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

Any streaming video explanation can be downloaded and saved. Any buyer who trusts the video to be hosted for an extended period of time is acting foolishly. Even the videos I've purchased from Penguin are downloaded on my computer and I trust Penguin more than any other dealer. It's just common sense I think...
The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance; it is the illusion of knowledge.

Yes, if your browser doesn't already have a tool to download, you can always try out the many add-ons that are available. No shortage of these for Firefox or Google Chrome, for sure.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

So, somehow I lost my subscription to WPR, so I’m way behind on my pointless comments. I’ll try to catch up (as if anyone cares).
The poker chip thing is cool, but didn’t we ALL mess with those gimmicks when we were teenage wonder workers? Many of you are far more personable with walk-around audiences than I. It may well work. Over the past several years, I’ve just had people get ticked-off with the whole, “Here, hold this” thing. Especially in restaurants when folks are super germ conscious. Money (paper & gaffed coins) and sponge balls have gone into the “junk magic” drawer. I know…..it’s just me…. “Triage” I just don’t get. We see the ad where he waves his hand over the pieces and it is fully restored (with no creases), but these guys are talking about shoving it into a pocket. Huh? “ReBox” looks promising, but a bit suspect. I’ve seen similar bits which are as good, but I have to wonder how easy this is in terms of ditching. It’s a great magic moment, but you have to go somewhere from here. Maybe it’s great……hard to tell. “Freedom Writer”? Well, I loved the Traffic song with a similar name. And it didn’t have the weird looking props. I hate to say it, but magic seems to be on a downward spiral. |
