I want to create a thread where we can post suggestions of good business books that can help other magicians. I'm asking that these books be commonly available (such as on Amazon.com or at your local library) and that you explain why this book could help a budding [or experienced] performer from the business/marketing standpoint. That way this doesn't turn into "read Good to Great or Who Moved my Cheese because I've heard they have good business advice." If the books are available easily, it might just make us read the book and take away some good ideas. Thanks in advance for your contributions!

Forgot the book I'm currently reading "Everybody Writes: Your Go-To Guide to Creating Ridiciously Good Content" by Ann Handley.
If you're struggling with what to write for your website, blog, social posts, etc. it might be of interest to you.

Second vote for Made to Stick. Fantastic read about how people remember things (like you and your name and your brand and so on) and why certain information spreads (goes viral). Definitely worth reading. Built to Last is another good one to study.
Instead of more books, here are some awesome authors to check out (some even post articles, podcasts and/or TED Talks online that are just as good): Malcolm Gladwell Daniel Pink Chip Heath |

Another good one is "The Creative Habit" by Twyla Tharp. Not business-related in the traditional sense, but since our business is all about being creative I think it's a must read.

"Sell Or Be Sold: How to Get Your Way in Business and in Life" by Grant Cardone
Why: You will always be the best authority on what you have to offer. This book will teach you how to persuade and create value. It's not just for salespeople. I found it in my local library and ended up buying my own copy. |

If you want to take your marketing up a notch to include sales letters, etc., anything by Dan Kennedy is the ticket. Additionally, the Glazer Kennedy Inner Circle (www.gkic.com) is a great resource for any and everything marketing. In fact, their Chief Marketing Officer, Dave Dee, is...a magician! Their marketing tactics work for literally ANY business you can think of. Give it a look!
