Hi friends! I'm a long time performer but just now getting into magic specifically mentalism but we'll see where it goes. Before I admit to who my husband is(he posts semi regularly here) we have a dilemma to figure out first, about whether we'll be keeping my new skill set a secret or not. I posted specifically in the mentalist forum, at least I think that's where I posted. Here's the link at any rate: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......c=596629 Can't wait to glean tips and encouragement.

Welcome TheMagiciansWife,
Privately, among Magicians, it is good to share that you are a Magician. You will miss out on a lot of opportunities if you don't show your true colors. You don't have to let them know how much or what you know, just that you are a committed Magician. You will learn a lot more from the Magicians if they can talk freely and they won't if they don't think you are a Magician. Be prepared to perform a little something once in a while. Magicians who can/will perform in session are invited to session more often. While Magicians in general are welcoming to Women, we can be a little dismissive of Assistants and Wives. (It's not fair and I'm sorry but we don't always know what to talk about if we don't talk Magic.) It is easy to miss out on a lot of important Magic information it you allow yourself to be sidelined with the Assistants and Wives. I know this sounds ugly but you are trying to become a Magician and you need to be in the thick of things. (Also don't get stuck serving coffee etc… if food is being served in a group of Magicians. Help serve but never take the first step unless it is your house or you can become the server all too easily. This can be an uncomfortable waiting game for all involved but it is important.) There could be an advantage in laying low in the public but you will also not be building a reputation for yourself which can be helpful if you ever decide to do shows on your own. No matter what you decide, Magic and The Café are both right choices. -Mary Mowder |
