It's been an exciting month for the Mystic Menagerie! We are putting together the next show at the moment and you will hear what happened when Dan and I were approached by Japanese TV for a prime time show on weird and wonderful things. We have some new features on the next show including Nathan - our regular Mystic Oracle - and Bona Or B******s where we investigate whether there is any truth in well known stories.
The Patreon subscribers have some great bonuses too - exclusive routines by Joshua Johnson for Lebanon Circle's "Switch Witch" and big discounts for Switch Witch itself and next year's Doomsday events! |

I've enjoyed the podcasts immensely but just got around tonight to signing up as a patron. (Has it really been a year?? Good grief)
I have to say the offer of exclusive content was one of the tipping points in getting me to pony up and be a patron. As an admirer of Dan and Freddie, I've intended to sign up for awhile just to support the cause but I was ultimately motivated to grab my wallet by the offer of routines for the switch witch (Not that I need them...I just love the switch witch and always want more inspiration.) and of course the lecture by Prof BC has had me itching to pull the trigger. It's the idea of an on demand resource of potentially useful and compelling content that I like. I also (respectively) like the evolution of the podcast.. a little less banter and a little more substance. I often listen to it in the car and I always enjoy it much more when Dan and Freddie are into the nitty gritty and a little less when I'm driving and reach my destination before anything truly compelling has yet to develop. It's not that the banter isn't fun or entertaining, but time is such a precious commodity these days that I can't help but wish the podcast was a little more mercenary in terms of getting to the heart of the idea and intention of the episode. And again - that brings me to the potential of the exclusive content. (Hint Hint Dan and Freddie). I offer these thoughts not as a critique, but as (hopefully) helpful insight as to what got a spooky member to transcend the good wishes and good will and actually punch in his credit card numbers. I see the patron level donations are barely topping $500 per month - not enough $$ money for a staff / assistants, researchers / talent booker / content creator etc etc. My hopes for the podcast and content are probably not yet realistic. Clearly this is already a generous labor of love by it's creators. Regardless, I'll offer up my thoughts and maybe more spooky members will jump on the band wagon. (Honestly - how cool would it be to have some content of Prof BC demonstrating 3 wishes or Perkins talking about ES Poe?) I think the podcast and exclusive content has the potential be so much more. It would be wonderful to see it really take off. Cheers to Dan and Freddie for embarking on this journey. |

Thanks for your comments. When we started we were new to podcasting and didn't want to create something identical to all the others that are about. Most are very dry and sound like someone reading from a script in a monotone voice but Dan and I wanted to have a show where it feel as if you know us and are in the pub with two mates. We have loads of ideas for future shows and try to make it as interesting as possible with a lot of variety, different guests and even a radio drama!
There will be some exciting bonus content over the next year and we've also tried to keep that diverse with a mixture of PDFs, videos and audio files so there's something for everyone! The show is evolving all the time and we are grateful for those that are supporting us and along for the journey. |

If we ever get to the stage we need staff I feel the fun and energy will go out of it. Our next Patreon goal though is 2 shows per month! |

I get horus1's drift on the banter, but I will admit that I do kind of like it! It does feel like "2 blokes in the pub"...

We want it to seem natural and friendly rather than a dry lecture, so banter is part of it. I've heard podcasts where virtual strangers are try to get a rapport going but Dan and I are good mates so the conversation is very much like our normal conversations!
