I'm sure just about every magician and mentalist has heard the story about a performer doing a cold reading in a restaurant or bar, and how everyone wanted to get their reading, too. Some probably dismiss it is hype... Until they see it or it happens to them.
A couple nights ago Jorge did a cold reading about a cocktail waitress' boy friend. She was TOTALLY entranced for fifteen minutes. About 30 minutes after she went back to work, she came over with another cocktail waitress who wanted you to do a reading for her. They were eating out of your hand!!! Can you elaborate on this event at all for us, Jorge? |

You also has some experience doing cold reading on the TV show you participate in Argentina.
Could you share some tips about it? How do you frame your readings? What are you expected to say in those cases? Etc Many thanks in advance |

Ok regarding cold reading I can say that it took me a couple of years to realize that there is no system. What I mean is that there are many systems and that you can use them all together. I use a lot face reading and different ideas but the most important one is how I practice and I ve learned this from Ian Rowland. Just talk and get interested in people, and say things as if you had any kind of feeling about them. What I mean is do not challenge, do not perform and try the systems as if you were an intuitive person. Nobody will say that you failed if there is no challenge and you are just having a casual conversation. I cover many systems and ideas in my book "7 mysteries" and some ideas for organic routines.
Regarding TV I ve found that after almost 3 years of being on a talk show you obviously run out of powerful routines so since more than a year I started doing pure cold reading on famous guests to the show. In this way I look as a mentalist and keep the interest of what I m doing (Even if I m doing readings each week) and that is because the audience is interested in which are the questions the Tv stars have about their future. This builds a very interesting moment for the show. There is an additional advantage on this and is about what and actor maybe worried about for their future (if you think there is no more than 4 or 5 possibilities) and on TV if you want you can force this question by example saying "think about your career...." Obviously I never go for the answer as I have to fish a little but I start doing a personality reading, casual talk, fishing and then when I m sure go for the answer. On TV is always important to get early and just walk around... TV stars usually go there with somebody and probably a producer so may be you can "hear" something you might use later. |
