My first message in this forum after being a lurker!
I'm frustrated. I'm trying to learn a back palm, but find that when I make the move to vanish a card, one side or other of the card springs out from between my fingers. I can't seem to keep both edges of the card locked down. Are there any resources out there on how to develop proper technique so this doesn't happen? Thanks.

Number of videos out there, though I couldn't tell you which was the best. What size card are you using, poker, bridge? Which ever it is, try the other. It is something you have to practice a lot. I tossed cards for weeks before I got it down.

It took me a while to get it right.
Just keep practicing and you will get it. Todd |

I spent 3 days learning this. I thought it was something I'd never, ever, ever be able to do. After a long weekend, it was like nothing. Really fun to do. I was cursing like a sailor when I kept getting the move wrong, but you'll get the right feel for it. Practice with 3 or 4 cards at first. You might have to hold the card deeper down your fingers to get a good grip and so it doesn't pop out. You'll get it. Good luck!

I believe card manipulation is best explained visually, and the most comprehensive DVD's on the subject are Jeff McBride's 'The Art of Card Manipulation' series.
Here is a link to purchase them: https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/magic/......dividual I think this is your best option. |

They are a little stiff for this purpose, at least when new, but I don't want to have to rely on a special deck. I'd like to be able to pick up any random Bikes and do it. I'm not huge into card manipulation -- though I truly admire people who do it well -- I just want to be able to add a little flair by vanishing and producing cards during a routine.

A good back palm can take some time. Go at it very, very slow at first. Also, begin by placing the card into the perfect BP position manually using your other hand to help get it into position. Note how the card looks and feels in that position. HOLD IT for a fifty count, etc. Why? To help build up both the muscles that do the work and muscle memory of the proper position. You should do just this part for some time until it seems very normal. Then slowly do the move attempting the get the card into the exact same position, etc.
