Wow. an 800 year old mystery
I am flattered by your suggestion that I might be up to the challenge.

I recall a documentary concerning a technically advanced Viking sword.

It too had lettering along the blade, but in that case they were able to decode and read it.

I am tempted to take a brief peek at this one, but doubt I am up to the task of actually decoding it.

I'll get back to you my friend.

The joy is in the mystery

Doc Steve, I have begun to study the message on the blade of the sword.

It's early, but I think I know who the sword may have belonged to.

I will send you a PM with additional information.

The symbol + stands for powerful and mighty in German.

The first image is a stylized Croix, Msltese or iron cross symbolizing Germany.

The letters on the sword are: +IIOXE-IHWDNCHDXORVI+ . .

The person the cryptic message identifies is; HEINRICH VII

The letters WOXO=Was Tut Woxo, which translates to say the following in German;

Doing or waging a powerful, mighty war.

The full text basicially says; Germany's Heinrich VII intends to wage a mighty war.

A 1300's illustration gives his name as HENRIC VII, and shows him in fill armor, holding his sword and a cross.

I came to the conclusion that the letter after the first X was a compound or double letter standing for a combined E & I.

It is my understanding that this is common in the German language.

I am sure others who speak or write it will set the record straight.

Thank you Pascal, and yes, voynich will soon be revisited.

Very intriguing.
Those who don't believe in magic will never find it.

Rook, The challenge and mystery of it really drew me in.
Last night I tweaked and finalized my theory, then sent it to the British Library.

This morning, Igot their reply. The have been inundated with material from the public at large.

The sword which had been on disaplay at the library since Sept 2015, has been returned to its rightful home at the British Museum.

My material and that of every other contributor has been forwarded to the British Museum for study and consideration.

Now we must wait and let the chips fall where they may.

Fingers crossed,
