This does look pretty awesome, like a visual effect camera trick.
In the beginning, I thought it was an impromptu effect but after reading the blurb it makes me happy that this is a gimmick as it will be super easy to do. Let me know guys what you are thinking of it. More info: http://www.murphysmagic.com/product.aspx?id=56597

Available for UK Preorder at Merchant of Magic shipping from the UK on the 2nd March.
http://www.magicshop.co.uk/p147396/Alcar......nfo.html I've not watched the full tutorial yet, just a walk through of how the gimmick works. The mechanics of the gimmick are smart, and definitely looked fine for beginners. I'm curious about the presentation around the distorted queen as she changes, that's not really focused on in the trailer much..

Effects with this sort of plot tend to flop, however, it looks badass and I am looking forward to some reviews!

Looks great on the vid... no doubt about it. Looking forward to reviews along with a few more details regarding angles, etc.

We got these in stock the other day and I'm pleased to say the gimmick is ready made to go right out of the packet.
The change is easy to do and angles are good, you need to be aware of them but your hand covers all the dirty work when its done. The handling is quite easy requiring only basic card handling. Check it out here http://www.saturnmagic.co.uk/new-magic/45469.html

OK, so I ended up getting this and overall I do like it. Its just as visual as the trailer and the full routine looks very fair- no fishy moves.
The gimmick is good quality, though you may want to be aware of your lighting or take a step back before doing the change to better hide parts of the gimmicks, but its absolutely a close up effect. Its very nice to see multiple real world uncut performances on the tutorial video- something that seems to be lacking with a lot of releases these days. Its easy to do, though there is a little bit of sleight of hand involved to get the gimmick out of play. Personally, I didn't like that in the routine, the card changes color to blue backed, but that is not necessary. I also didn't like that the Queen "smudges" during the transformation as personally, it screams gimmick to me but I can see why some may like it. I honestly just split a card and glued it over the smudge so it looks normal on mine. Is it worth it? Well I recommend checking out M.O.T.H. by Lyndon Jugalbot (http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/3936) as for $1 you can get a very similar looking effect with a gimmick. The method is not quite the same as Alcardmy and its honestly not as good, but its a much cheaper alternative if you want to achieve such a visual change with a gimmick doing most of the work for you. With that said, if the trailer for Alcardmy looked appealing to you, I think you will be pleased with the product and the quality. |
