When I say I'm new, I mean both to this forum and to magic. Though I've been registered to the forum for twenty minutes, and doing magic for about five weeks, so not precisely equally new.
Anyway, I have always liked magic, but only recently did I realize I love it. In particular, I love dramatic magic. Not necessarily big magic, but magic that brings strong emotion in addition to the wonder at the magic itself. Things like Xavier Mortimer's performance on Fool Us or Gabi Pareras' presentation of "Cutting the Aces," the latter of which managed to have me on the edge of my seat. I also really like the Indian needle trick for this reason, though I honestly like it better with needles than the "updated" razor blade version I sometimes see. I've been trying my hand at magic for a little while now, mostly with cards. I think there are so many crappy card tricks that I ought to put in the effort to get good and try to shift the balance. Anyway, I look forward to making friends on here, growing as a magician, and hopefully someday helping someone else along as well. |

Welcome JoeK,
And welcome to Magic. We were all new once. You gotta love cards, they are so portable. Keep a journal of your progress with occasional dates. It will help to show your progress and general interests. -Mary Mowder |

Thank you for the warm welcome! And I like the journal idea; I'll start doing that.
