Thanks to all. barring the minor cat fight earlier on this has been a most interesting thread. I have to say that I use a couple of the methods mentioned above. its nice to see how other work around the same problem.

To Hack
I'm sorry again for the catfight I caused in your thread and hope that there are no hard feelings. also to Stephen Long. When I said "Let's get on with something more important"I meant that we should get back to the actual thread and away from the silly catfight...(The one I started) I was in no way dismissing yours or any other post in the thread to that point. I apologise for causing any misunderstanding Dean Atkinson. I apologise for the misunderstanding. |

I'm one of those strange people who is right-handed in life but am a left-handed magician.
I do not use a peek that often but I developed something to enable me to glimpse the card after the person has peeked at it. It only works if I am riffling through the cards and the person calls 'stop'. I get a pinkie break as I let the cards go. I then kick the card out slightly at an angle using my pinkie. This exposes the index. I can then gesture with my hand and glimpse the card. As I hand them to be shuffled, I push the card back flush. I also have a way of fanning the card straight after the peek and I get my glimpse after the fan is closed. It works the same as before, kicking out the card. If you fame the cards and close them again, turning the deck end for end, the card will still be outjogged slightly!

I forgot, Harry Lorayne teaches a peek that can be for left0handed magician on his video "Harry Lorayne Is Probably The Best Teacher" volume 10 (in the routine "Out of my Control").
This one actually works for both left-handed AND right-handed magicians!!! Ronnie Lemieux Montreal Canada

You gotta wonder why they (?) did not ever come up with a left handed deck...i'm sure it would sell to a portion of our population!
Sometimes it's interesting to read books written by lefties - they try to translate everything back to rh technique in the diagrams etc, but always something gets missed and is left "left". I think I've seen this in some of the books by/on Mr Carney, and others too. I think they should leave it all "left" and make us righties work for a change!

I must admit that when I bought my first Darwin Ortiz book, I thought that the explanations would be written with a leftie perspective! Same thing with Lee Asher's lecture notes. At least, when WE (lefties) spread the cards the numbers are NOT upside down for the spectators!!! It is after all for them that we perform, not ourselves. Ronnie Lemieux Montreal Canada

I use the same method as Jon. As soon as you get that bottom left corner kicked out, there are myriads of covers for glimpsing the card, such as an all-round square-up, riffle shuffle, etc.

Actually Carney is right handed. He does many things left handed because he believes that using his dominant hand is advantagous.

Paul Wilson teaches a nice ambidextrous peek on 'Knock Em Dead'... During his 'Think Stop and Emergence' routine - I think it's a variation of the bubble peek (?), not 100% though

Regarding Paul's post above. Does anybody know a good brand of playing cards that have 4 corner indices? I'm based in the Uk, and am finding it hard to locate any of any reasonable quality.
Thanks, |
