Does anyone know where I can get a movable bottom jaw from? I.E. the type you put on a willing volunteer and convert him/her into a living vent doll.
Ron Lucas uses one in the US (Vegas) as does Paul Zerdin in the UK. Any help and advice would be most welcome.
Warmest regards

James----Ronn has, and is threatening lawsuits to anyone using the mask. He claims it is his intellectual property----he might not be able to get a hold of you in the U.K. though ---LOL----------cheers!----Jimeuax

Bill Boley used to sell these years ago...his operated with a string. You can still find some around esp at the venthaven conventions...that is if you don't mind the strings.

Joe Boley (the late Col. Boley's son) still sells these. I bought one recently for about $80. He'll send you pictures and add ears if you want. I got one with ears but removed them so I can reattach them and make them stick out more. I'm also going to change the nose and add dimples, but Joe's mask is a good framework to start from.

I have one of Bill Boley's masks. It gets a great audience reaction!
BTW, I'm not trying to stir up a hornet's nest here (well, maybe I am ), but whatever anyone may claim, the vent mask idea has been around for a looooong time. I really don't know how far anyone would get with a lawsuit. But hey, if anyone wants to try, I could use the publicity! A very happy Easter to all of my Café friends! Joe L.

The british vent Keith Harris dresses the volunteer with ears, school cap and scarf. He then primes them to open their mouth when he pushes their back. A couple of 'rehearsals' and he is off. Most answers are just one word to start. It works very well and you don't get sued!
I only saw Keith use this once, and that was in the 60's. We were both younger. George |

I did a search on Ron Lucas and found pictures of his trademarked "Mighty Mouth" mask. It looks great! It's much better than the Boley version. Does his mask precede the mask used by Bill Boley? I can see that it would be actionable to copy his mask design, but I find it hard to believe he can prevent others from using masks.
UPDATE: April 29, 2004 On further research it seems Ronn Lucas' use of the Mask does precede Boley's. Here's a link to Ronn's claim about rights to the mask. There are 2 parts. You should read both if the subject interests you. http://www.thefamilyvent.com/cybervent/i......sk1.html |

I hope that it's Joe Boley who selling these. If not somebody made a mold from his mask. That's a dead ringger for Boley's mask.

Come on. We all should know in the magic community how suing is a lot harder than that. Sure maybe he has moral grounds, but in a court. He would lose. WAY too many variables involved.

The Bowley mask wioll not hold up nearly as well as those made by Lou Hilario. Check out his offerings (see this same thread.) His are the best!
