I have no idea where to post this, so here it goes:
I am curious what you think about the various alternatives to the Copper/Silver theme. It now can be done with keys, key label tabs, memory sticks, etc. I'm asking because I started using Freakey again after setting it in my "back drawer" for a few years, but I am now thinking "What's the point?" Is doing copper/silver with keys somehow better than with coins? I have gone back to doing it with the simplest of coins, the penny and dime that cost $8 at my local brick and mortar magic store (Yes, I am blessed to still have a Brick and Mortar. If you are in the Los Angeles area, you should go to the Magic Apple. No, I don't get compensated for saying that, I just don't want it to go away for my own selfish reasons.). I carry them in the coin pouch built into my $9 wallet that also serves as a card to wallet because it has a feature similar to Farkuhar's C2W wallet. Most laypeople don't seem to suspect anything with coins any more than they don't suspect anything with keys. I'm curious about your thoughts. Thx. KJ |

I don't feel that it makes a difference whether using coins, keys, or whatever. To the spectator, the effect is the same. Your decision should be based on your own preferences and/or performing situation. For example, "Freakey" can stay on your key chain and therefore appear to be totally impromptu when someone asks, "Can you show me something?". With a Copper/Silver coin routine perhaps your using one or both coins in a different effect, which precedes it. Or with Flash Drives maybe you have an interesting presentational hook? From my own experience, it's good to have a variety of methods in your toolbox. Any transposition effect done in the hands is very strong to laypersons, and it is also easy for them to follow...Explore different versions and you will be richly rewarded.

Let's say you do two coin tricks with different plots. Many people will remember this as "he did some amazing things with coins".
Now do some transpositions with coins and then with USB sticks (Chad Long's Flash). Those same people will tell their friends you did magic with coins and USB sticks. If your routines are word for word identical and you do them one after the other it may become obvious that the same thing is happening but it's easy to vary the sequence and the words used to make in effect two entirely different routines. |

Also if you really had the ability to transpose objects you WOULD do it with different props wouldn't you? You'd be transposing fruit one day and pens another day, whatever is at hand.

Sometimes there's someone who already seen the trick and say "hey do that trick with the keys!"
you reach into your pocket and say "hmm I don't have keys here but let use this coins" or vice versa |

Mike,
If I had the ability to transpose things, I would transpose some decent brains into a few politicians. KJ |

I love FreaKey! It always gets me great reactions and it seems so innocent. What I love is as they look back the magic happened in their hands with normal items.

I like the Johnson copper silver. It is too reasonable. It lasts forever.
Doing a change with this and then switching it out with MB's crimp change is sweet. |
