Hi All,
Thanks for allowing me to join the forums! Im from the far lands of Zimbabwe in Southern Africa. Just a little bit of an intro.... I have always been fond of magic, even as a young kid. while I couldn't say that I took it seriously enough to make it a profession, the interest has always been there somehow. Im now 33 and in the last few months, I seem to have have found that interest again. This time, more with 'card magic' and card manipulation. I'm still very much a noob! but have found a really strong interest in the niche of Darwin Ortiz and Erdnase. I've taken a particular interest in Daniel Madison's work as well. While I'm still in the early stages, just earlier today I progressed from reading books, and practicing on my own.. to actually pulling off a double lift infront of 3 people, of which one person was watching my hands and the cards the whole time. I probably suck at misdirection still, but he completely missed the double lift and that brought a great big smile to my face. more so, that in my inexperienced state, decided to do a card trick while I was standing infront of a seated person.. whose eyes were level and fixed with the cards. (Doh!) but still managed to get away with it. been using a DMC elite deck (love it) to watch my false shuffles, underhand cuts etc rather than for mentalism etc... which has been great as a teaching aid. Hope to get to know everyone on the forums soon, and thanks for allowing me to join the community |

Welcome kilotango,
That big smile could be a "tell" LOL. If you connect with them, they will look at you and not at the cards. If you are looking at the cards, that is where the Spectator will look for sure. Once you get so you don't have to look a your hands you will have fewer problems. If you first make sure you know the fundamentals of a move and then practice while watching TV that can help. Watching in a mirror can be a good first step in not watching your hands directly (but it can become a crutch too). Congratulations on being able to do the DL undetected. I'll bet I was smiling when I got through my first one too. Now for the real goal of entertaining them. Smiling can be a part of that if you do it at the right time. Keep a journal with some occasional dates to track your progress. -Mary Mowder |
