E.D.M. by Nicholas Einhorn $34.95 Of course the spectators' line of sight has to be higher than the performance area. I wonder about the longevity of the card gimmick before it breaks or becomes too weak to work properly. Here is the description. http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S21127 What do you think?
The Elevated Dice Matrix or E.D.M is a classy visual routine of the highest order. It will also have the added bonus of leaving your magic friends baffled too! E.D.M sold out in just 48 hours at the Blackpool Magic Convention 2016. The classic matrix plot just got stronger with the addition of this simple but clever gimmick which allows you to perform the effect with 3/4 inch DICE. Your audience will be convinced there is a dice under each card until the final second. The clever handling and routining is explained in detail and comes beautifully packaged complete with: Hand-made Bicycle brand gimmick ready to use out of the box Extra matching Bicycle brand playing cards Four 3/4 inch dice Link for online instruction N.B. Cards supplied will be red or blue backed. However if you glue a joker from any matching size poker deck to the back of your gimmick it will match your own deck.

He teaches this in his penguin lecture. I made it up as soon as I watched it. Very easy to make up and a very nice effect.

Just wondering what the difference is between this and the dice matrix Charlie Frye teaches on Eccentricks and in his Penguin lecture?
Many thanks, R

Nice routine. Very creative. Unfortunately, not real practical in real world because you need a table and people have to pretty much be looking down on it.

Looks very similar to the Charlie Frye routine, but with an improved gimmick. You wouldn't be able to simply lay the cards down at the end of the routine with Frye's routine (not that you want to anyway).

The gaff was fairly easy to make. I found that if you load a die into the gimmick to start you now have the ability to have one extra to bring into a routine. It can be easily pushed out of the gaff at the onset of a routine. Just a thought.

I've seen 5 or 6 different versions of this effect. Which one do you like best, and why?

David Ben, one of my favourite performers, shares a matrix with sugar cubes that also has a similar "depth illusion" on his Penguin Live Lecture. His method will work with smaller dice, and the cards can all be examined at the end.
Nick's matrix does look beautiful; the illusion really sells the transpositions and the method looks more suitable for larger objects. Marty |
