Does anyone know a (commercially available in UK) rope trick which uses a reel to make the knot rise up the rope ?
Thanks td |

This trick is no longer available for the last 50 years in good quality.
A few years ago, Pete Biro made a few with a cheap reel and sold them through Stevens Magic here in the U.S. If you are interested you might want to contact him here on the Café and see if he will make you one. It worked okay, as I had it. If you are anywhere near a good magic shop in the U.K., you might inquire with them. If you go to London, you might have good luck at International Magic or Davenports. Good reels are very scarce now, so it may cost more to acquire. Even back in the 1970's, reels cost $45.00, and thus they are selling close to $100 now. Reel made in the U.K. were very high quality. The more difficult part of the trick is the knot gimmick and proper creation of the knot. I really like this bit of pulling a know off the rope, after sliding the knot up and down. Good Luck! |

I think Dennis Loomis included this on his "Dennis Loomis Knot Routine ...Plus", DVD.
I'll check for sure and get back to you. Bill is right, first you'll need a good reel. -Mary Mowder |

Yes, Stevens Magic has them in stock, made by Pete Biro. I suggested the source, and not the dealer. I got mine from Pete when he 1st started making them.

Hi T,im
Just saw your post. If you have access to Genii magazine on-line, there is a routine in the August 1964 issue. It is a routine by John Giordmaine (I think he was a Canadian children's performer) titled "Comedy Rope Mystery." It is a three phase routine where 1) a knot slides off a rope, 2) the knot is put back on the rope and slides up the rope 3) the magician cuts the rope and restores it in a very non-standard and funny way. The middle phase is accomplished by the method you asked about. Many years ago I tried to make this myself since I really liked the idea of the routine, but I could never make the sliding knot work properly. With the availability of Pete Biro's gimmicked rope, this routine might be of some interest to you. Somewhere in my files I have a copy of this routine. So, if you can't get it on-line, and are interested, let me know and I'll take a look for it. Regards, Barry Moran |
