How is (essentially) doing a few magic tricks for 4-5 hours a hardship? Hardly back breaking labour is it

In the few times I've done it, it starts to get pretty tiring after about two hours. You wouldn't think it would, but it does. Or maybe I'm just weak.

I have never found it tiring in the least.

I think 2 hours is a perfect shift - finish with plenty of energy.

I never get tired while I'm performing, although there is a let down when the adrenaline rush is over.

At Malone's Magic Bar, we worked either a five or six hour shift each night. It took a while to build the stamina, but we had a blast every night!

SIXTEEN!
Why, when I was sixteen I put in a 24-hour shift working in a coal mine every day before I even started my 12-hour gig at the corner saloon! And instead of linking rings I had to use the wheels off an old oxcart! And I was GLAD to do it that way! And let me tell you another thing ... |

Strenuous? That is a joke right?

Some people are meant to develop a 7 minute dove act and some can stroll all day. When I worked the bar at the Castle it was 6 hours non stop
(whether they had enough of me or not ) Most times I fill in at restaurants it’s 3.5 to 4.5 hours. But 16… Don’t you like people? If you talk with them the time goes by much faster and the experience is richer too.

In any performance art, it can be draining to perform for more than a couple hours.
Attention is keenly on you every minute of every hour, and you're alert every second. 5 hours seems like way too long to be performing. I've done such gigs at weddings making $800+, but it's a labor of love, and laborious it is; however the GM isn't paying YOU tiddly twat. No disrespect, but I'm astonished you would take orders from a GM who isn't paying you--unless he feels as if he's doing you a favor by letting you practice on his patrons. |
